I am about to install my new S&B scope, I have new badger rings, and base. Is it necessary to lap the rings? I have installed badger rings before without lapping them, and had no trouble.

Where is NOBODY with his ring lapping lap dancing shpeal?
When I buy a used rifle, if the rings on a dual mount rifle have been lapped, I take off the rings and throw them away.
Then I fixture and glass the dual Weaver mounts so the mounts are co- planar, the edges are co - linear, and the mount are either parallel with the bore or pointed 20 moa low with respect to the bore.
If someone lapped the rings on a one piece mount, I may laugh, but I don't throw them away. The rings may be a little altered, but the ring may still align with the mount.
