just got a pair of 4 screw seekins rings. I CANNOT easily rotate my us optics sn3 in them without scratching the scope body. Has anyone lapped their rings before?

Re: Lapping Seekins Rings

Try bedding you scope base and see what happens. Don't punish the rings for something they didn't do!!

Re: Lapping Seekins Rings

I lapped mine, 30mm med 4 screw, I also bedded my scope rail.

Re: Lapping Seekins Rings

I'd like to learn about bedding the rail as well, that's new to me.

Re: Lapping Seekins Rings

Kind of the same technique as bedding the receiver.

I don't know if this site has a good walkthrough, but the other site (central) has a good one in its optics section in a sticky.

Re: Lapping Seekins Rings

Bedding Rails down and dirty
torque the front two screws to spec(15 inch pounds)
if theres a gap in the back of the rail, it needs to be bedded
tape off the rail and receiver
remove the rail
mix Marine Tex
put all 4 screws in the rail
apply bedding to receiver, BE CAREFUL not to fill screw holes
slowly put the rail down on to the receiver and start the 4 screws
torque the front two screws only
when the bedding is dry torque the rear two

Re: Lapping Seekins Rings

Lapping the rings is such an easy job. It would be the first place to start. If it became obvious something was wrong, I would probably check the base and bed it if I felt that was needed. Seekins rings have a great reputation and if there appeared a problem with them, I would check everything and rule nothing out, including something I may have done.
