I am about to reload the 300 Scenar, having done a bunch of 250gr Scenar. I notice that the 300 is noticeably longer than the 250.... so that would imply a deeper seating depth in order to maintain the same COAL as the 250, right?

Anyone have experience reloading both of these bullets and can comment?

Using 215Ms, Retumbo, and Hornady twice fired cases.

I seat to the ogive. Never much care about OAL unless trying to fit in a mag. My DTA lets me run right into the lands with 300 scenars and still fit in the mag if I want.

Re: Lapua 250 vs 300 Scenar...

That's a good point. After I posted original, I noticed using the Hornady LNL bullet comparator, that the ogive of the 300 gn Scenar is not the same distance from the bullet tip as it is on the 250gn Scenar. So this implies I need to pull out the Hornady seating depth tool to set my seating depth mic properly for the 300gn.

But nonetheless it sure seems like in order to stay 0.010 off my 338LM Rem 700 lands, the 300gn is going to be way deep in the case... I wonder what that will do to case pressures.

That's a problem with older box mags and blind mags, with the 300s. You can't get them close enough to the lands and get them to fit in the magazine, so you need to single load them.

Newer magazines are coming with more room. I can seat my 250s out to 3.675"ish in my TRG-42 mags, which would force me to seat the 300s deeper into the case, thereby reducing powder capacity.
