Is anyone necking down the new Lapua 308 Palma brass with the small primer pocket to use in there 260 rifle?
Curious if there is any advantage in less verticle and ES with the small primers.

Re: Lapua 308 Palma to 260 brass

I prefer the .080" flash holes in the original REM URBR brass for a 40-50gr powder capacity case(.260,7-08,308).

The smaller flash hole in the Lapua Palma brass will certainly have perceived ignition issues.

Lapua's only 20yrs behind the times!!!

Re: Lapua 308 Palma to 260 brass

I am curious as to why Lapua would then state that the small primers used in there 308 Palma brass would yield tighter ES and verticle.
I would think it would also apply to using that same brass necked down for a 260.
Would like some feedback from anyone who has tried it, and what results you found.

The small primers work great in some cases (6ppc, 6.5x47) and poorly in others. I don't shoot it, but here is a little article from German Salazar on the topic. You can always play with different primers to lower ES. The Russian primers seem to do a good job...they are just really hard to seat on virgin brass.

I suspect they did some testing. Just a hunch though.

Lapua has a ready made market for "better" 308 brass in that the chambering is used on the global long range shooting version of the Olympics, so plenty of demand potentially for it.

Personally I've had no trouble getting single digit ES with Lapua brass with large primers, so I won't be adopting the small primer brass anytime soon.

Thanks for the link.
Very imformative. No sense in pursueing it at this point.
Thanks for saving me the trouble. </div></div>

If you were not considering going down that road why ask the question?

I think he was until he read German's article. German does such a good job. I take his work and recommendations as gospel. No sense wasting time in an attempt to confirm or disprove his work IMO. Follow good advice, dink less, shoot more is my motto. Following German's recommendations supports my approach.
