I bought a mcmillan general purpose stock off the classifieds here or another site (can't remember where I bought it) a long time ago. I sat it on the shelf for a while then decided to build a 270 win with a rem 700 action and use the stock. When I was fitting everything up I realized that the bottom metal inletting was kinda gapped up. I tried to fix it with epoxy and dye but it never looked good enough for me to be satisfied. Does anyone make bottom metal that is a little larger? I cannot stand the gap arond the factory bottom metal.

Re: Larger profile bottom metal?

Depends on what bottom metal it was originally cut for. Most of the time the stock is cut for a specific bottom metal.

To know what bottom metal to get you would need to know what the stock was cut for. If you want to go larger then what you have now you would still kind of want to know what the stock was originally cut for.

Re: Larger profile bottom metal?

It is cut for factory bottom metal, just gapped to hell on one side. I can re-inlet without a problem, just need some larger bottom metal. Is williams bottom metal any larger than the factory?

That must be a big gap.

If you are going big and want the floor plate style get the one piece Badger M4. If you want a mag system get the M5.

Re: Larger profile bottom metal?

I know that the Badger M4 (BDL style) has a bit bigger outside measurement , not sure how big your gap is though.

Did your parting tool ever show up??

Get the patch kit from McMillan complete with dies to match the paint. I've used it and it's a dead nuts match. For bottom metal use it like bedding around the edges. You can push the excess back in around the edges and trim it when it sets up. File / sand / wet sand and you're set.
