I have an old Larue LT-120 mount that I put my new Vortex Razor HD Gen II into today. Per the Larue website, the 1.285" centerline height of the mount can accommodate up to 56 mm objectives and still use scope caps. However, when I mounted the scope to a flat top rail, the objective just barely touched the rail. It looked like the rear portion of the bell was touching just enough to lift the front of the sun shade up a few thousandths of an inch. I torqued the rings down to 18 in-lbs prior to mounting, per Vortex's spec.

Is the outside diameter of the Razor Gen II abnormally large for its lens size? I don't have an unpainted rail at the moment (light layer of Krylon on the rails I tested), so I can't say for sure that isn't the cause, but I wouldn't think it would make that considerable of a difference. I would feel concerned about putting the scope onto my upcoming AIAX, I feel the stresses added by touching the rail could damage the scope, or at least throw off accuracy/consistency.

Does anyone have any ideas on what could be throwing it off? I want to think it's the nut behind the scope, but I can't think of how any of the variables could cause this.
