I was told this is the latest known serial number for the Remington 1903A4 sniper. Anyone have one with a later serial number?

I understand this was one of the "scopeless snipers" sold through the DCM back in the early 1960's. It's an arsenal refurbished example with original USGI scope rings and a Weaver 330 M8 commercial scope. This one needs to be re-fitted with a proper M73B1 someday.

Nice looking rifles. No expert on these, but here's what Bruce Canfield's book on the 1903 Springfield says about the last 1903A4 rifles (page 224):

March 1944, 2,933 made, barrel dates 12-43 to 1-44, serial number ending in 4996805.
April 1944, 1,619 made, barrel dates 12-43 to 1-44, serial number ending in 4998493.
May 1944, 62 made, barrel dates 12-43 to 1-44, serial number ending in 4998558.
June 1944, 31 made, barrel dates 12-43 to 1-44, serial number ending estimated as 499859X

...so based on Canfield's research, I surmise the original poster's rifle was likely made in April 1944, roughly ~190 to 200 serial numbers from the end of production. Neat.
