I couldnt get lswc's to work in my xd. I recently switched to this, 200 grain bullet from missouri bullet co.

as advertised on their website "feeds like butter"

I have not had any trouble with 230 grain lead round nose. Have you had any trouble with semi wad cutters or button style semi wad cutters because I cannot get them to work, ive tried all sorts of seating depth and changing the powder charge?

Re: lead bullets in xd 45 acp

I had to very slightly polish and "open up" the back end of the feed ramp on my XD45 to get it to feed 200 grain LSWCs, but it works fine with them now. I found that running the loads towards the light end of the chart also helps. I suspect the stouter recoil was trying to "straighten out" the cartridge (as opposed to the slightly nose-up position it adopts coming from the magazine) as the slide was starting forward and causing the shoulder of the semiwadcutter to catch on the bottom of the feed ramp. And I seat my bullets so there is just a tiny bit of lead shoulder exposed...just like the rounds in your pic.

Only thing is it looks almost like your stuff is roll-crimped (although I could be wrong...it happened once before

). Since the 45 ACP headspaces on the case mouth, a taper is the preferred crimp. I highly recommend a Lee Carbide Factory Crimp Die for the final step on handgun cartridges. It has markedly improved the consistency of my auto pistol loads and ensures that they function in any firearm chambered in that caliber.

Just my $.02...

Re: lead bullets in xd 45 acp

Thanks Noah Mercy, it is a roll crimp and next time I order something from midway I will add on the factory crimp die. Sometimes I get stovepipes when the ejecting case catches on the cutting edge of the next wad cutter in the clip. All three rounds above work great in my 1911. Also my xd is the 4" model and when I run my loads light it doesnt want to function as well? Ive noticed that I have to up the powder charge by .2 grains compared to the same load in mm 1911?

Re: lead bullets in xd 45 acp

I also have the four inch XD. I have a couple thousand rounds through mine, so the recoil spring has relaxed a little. If the round count on yours is low, that could be a contributing factor to stoppages.

I also deep cleaned the gun and then polished all sliding/rotating surfaces with Tetra grease. This stuff gets into the pores of the metal and you can actually feel the action smooth up after using it.

I think a combination of a "broken-in" spring and slick action allows my XD to now reliably digest low-end loads. I know a lot of folks over on the XD forum who can't get SWCs to feed reliably, and quite a few who shoot them without issue, so it's obvious that the pistols vary in some area critical to proper functioning with square-shouldered bullets.

I've shot truncated cone 225's without a problem from my XD 45.

Re: lead bullets in xd 45 acp

Thanks Noah Mercy your explanation is great, my round count is probably below 2000. It would be nice to get my xd & 1911 on the diet of same ammo, it really is complicating my ammo production considering they are both 45's. Im still left scratcing my head on why Ive got problems and others dont? Maybe I should try a factory load of lswc's?
Where is this xd forum you speak of?
