Some weeks ago I received my new 10x42 geovids from Pete-Roedale Precision.

I have been using a Swaro 8x30 binoculars for 10+years; have looked through some of the newer swaros; some Geovids and Zeiss, as well as Steiners and others......I was amazed at the clarity and contrast of this new Geovids. To date, I rate them as the best optics I have ever used.
Plus, having an integrated range finder is perfect for hunting. I am easily ranging trees and rocks at 1300 m, and ranging up to 1200 in any conditions.

So I can only recommend them if someone is looking for a great bino-RF combination..

Re: LEICA GEOVID HD

I am trying to decide oh the new HD Geovids. I currently have Swarovski's 8x30 and a Swarovski rangefinder. Thought it would be easier to just go to the lecia's, Less stuff to carry.

Re: LEICA GEOVID HD

Leica and zeiss make a range finding binocular now. both are awesome, but I like the leica's myself. the zeiss rf bino's do have the tightest beam divergence though. having less to carry and keeping things simple is always the way to go, and the rf binoculars perform better than a stand alone range finder in low light and by giving you a wider field of view.

Whats the price tag on the Geovids?

Cool. That's not bad then. Hell I paid almost 8k for my Vectronix range finder...

Re: LEICA GEOVID HD

The Zeiss retails at $2900. Camerland has some demos for $2449. I had some Leica Geovids for a few years and loved them. I decided to sell them and try out the Zeiss 10x45 RF Binos. The optical quality is better on the Zeiss. They are also much brighter. Before buying the Zeiss, I looked through the HD Leicas which mine weren't. The Zeiss seemed clearer, but for optical quality between the two, you are really cutting hairs.

The rangefinding capabilities are a different story. The Zeiss is a superior unit for ranging. The Zeiss will spit out 1700 yards pretty easily in most conditions. The Leicas top out at 1200 yards in average conditions.

I have also heard the Zeiss are more durable from a number of different people. I never had a problem with my Leicas, so the Leicas seemed plenty stout.

Re: LEICA GEOVID HD

For roughly the same price a person can get Leica Geovid HD 10x42, a demo zeiss unit, or a demo swaro lrf and a pair of demo el's. Which would be the best way to go? I really like the leicas, never tried the zeiss and I like the idea of the swaro rangefinder benefits at longer ranges.

Re: LEICA GEOVID HD

Having used all of the above, my vote goes for the Zeiss. The Zeiss LRF binos are way faster than the Swaro and give more consistent long range results. The Zeiss also gives immediate results. The Swaro takes more time to give a readout. If you want the best of the bunch, go for the Zeiss. I have been thoroughly impressed with them.
