Re: Leica is offering $500 trade-in value for any func

That is a great deal. I hope they are ready for a deluge of Tasco's, LOL.

I wish I needed an optic for a hunting rig.

I have never seen one of the Leica scopes, are they comparable in build quality and optical quality yo other Leica products?

Re: Leica is offering $500 trade-in value for any func

Call me a pessimist but this says to me that there is an awful lot of mark up in a scope if they can knock off 1/4 to 1/3 the price in exchange for a basically worthless optic.

Of course the optimist in me says that they feel they have a good product that they are desperatly trying to get the word out on, even if it means taking a loss on a few scopes.

School me if there is another line of reasoning I'm overlooking

Re: Leica is offering $500 trade-in value for any func

This is Leica's way of putting advertising dollars into the consumers hands rather than the publications. Word of mouth is the best ad. If you have it and love it, you'll share that with the guys you shoot and hunt with. Field use is the best way to promote an item and this is a great way to get the product into the hands of the user. This promotion is only for a short while and IMO it is a much better way to get their product into the mainstream than to run a bunch of magazine ads that in the long run would cost Leica the same amount as these rebates will.

Re: Leica is offering $500 trade-in value for any func

I'm glad to see the optimist in me win one and to see a company have enough confidence in a product to make a bold marketing move.

I would imagine that the $1500 price point in the hunting scope market is a tough niche to be in. In my area where the bulk of rifle users are after coyote it is accepted that Leupold is the top of the line scope builder with a few guys aware of Swarovski, $500-$700 is spending a ton of money on a hunting scope, and if you mention Nighforce, USO, or S&B you get blank stares. Tell them that you would like to buy a $2000 scope and they'll think you've gone insane. I don't know of a single hunter I've spoken to having ever mentioned tracking reliability or parallax adjustment and forget about talking moa or mils.

To these guys the coyote is just as dead if they shot it looking through a $150 Burris Fullfield II as it would be with a $600 VXII so whats the point, and sometimes thats hard to argue with.

Anyways, kudos to Leica on using their advertising dollars to the end users advantage as well as their own. Hopefully higher end optics will catch on with the hunters in my neck of the woods, bringing their more tactical/target type lines with them.

Hey 5x5guy,
I work in the firearms industry. I actually see more higher end scopes sell now than new hunting rifles. Hunters, especially deer (and larger game), are recognizing that a quality scope is the best tool to have in the field. I use Ziess on my deer gun and Leica 10x50 BA binos. It gives the "last light" advantage and got my biggest buck ever last season. Don't be so hard on gr8fuldoug's post here. He is a big supporter of this board and deserves our respect for it.

If the glass in the Leica scopes are on par with the Geovids, it will be stunning. Just wish the Ballistic reticle was FFP.

+1 on this. Never understood the SFP ranging/holdover reticle.

Re: Leica is offering $500 trade-in value for any func

The optics of this scope is the first I've looked thru in a long time that IMO has true Wow factor.

BTW, with the trade-in allowance we are offering, combined with the offer we made in our sale post from the end of October before this promo was announced, there is no better time to check out one of these scopes.
We have some Show Sample scopes from Leica that we offered in that sale post @ $1299.99 less your trade in @ $400.00 (allowance we are offering when you purchase a demo rather than a new scope) = $899.99 to get into a Leica riflescope.

I think you misunderstand the tone of my post. I think it's a good thing that Leica is using a promotion like this to put quality optics in the hands of hunters. As I mentioned, in my small corner of the world not many hunters are even aware that there is a higher level of scope out there and that they could offer a very real advantage in the field. That is what leads me to believe they are in a tough market niche.

In regards to m first post, I can see how it could be viewed as inflammatory and I assure you I meant no disrespect to gr8fuldoug. I am well aware of his and Camera Land's support of this board. I was simply trying to offer up my knee jerk reaction to reading the promotion that may be shared by some others. Doug responded with a thoughtfull explanation of Leica's motivation for the promo that confirmed the alternate conclusion that I mentioned in my initial post. Most good companies welcome feedback from their target demographic and I'm sure that Camera Land and Leica are among them. My intention was to offer just that.

Re: Leica is offering $500 trade-in value for any func

sorry if I misunderstood your posts intent but I would think the weather conditions could be very hard of hunting scopes there and you guys would want the best you could get.
A lot of good glass is sold down here in the south. I have seen $1500 scopes on $500 hunting rifles often.
