After a lot of research, I have decided by buy my first rangefinder and narrowed it down to either a Leica 900 or 1200. For 425.00 I can get a Leica 900 and the 1200 for 599.00. Is the extra 175.00 worth it for the 1200? Thanks for your thoughts.

Re: Leica Rangefinder 900 or 1200 ?

Of the two, I like my 1200 a lot better. I might wait for the 1600....but thats up to you. I found the 1200 SCAN for $450...in stock locally...

Re: Leica Rangefinder 900 or 1200 ?

I guess it depends on how far you usually intend on shooting. for many on here there is a desire to shoot to at least 1000 yards, so the 1200 is really the only option. Dr. Phil brought up a good point that the ranges marked on each model represent the upper end capability of the rangefinder, so even if you said that you only wanted to shoot up to 900 or a little less, you may still want the 1200.

so it depends on your application, but i'd say you will probably be better served to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it IMO. for what its worth i have the 1200 and love it.

That is one heck of a deal. I am getting ready to order a 900 from CameraLand. But I was waiting a bit to see if the older ones will be closed out when the 1600 comes out. Personally I do not need the 1200, the 900 would do just fine for my applications. However if I could buy a 1200 for $450 then I would gladly do that. Tom.

With the exception of a private sale, you will not find better prices & service than CamraLand.
I truely wish there were more companys / vendors around like Doug @ CameraLand.

Re: Leica Rangefinder 900 or 1200 ?

Thanks for the advice and perspective. I called CameraLand and ordered a Leica 1200. They were excellent to deal with and very helpful. The Leica 1600 sounds like one heck of a rangefinder though.

Re: Leica Rangefinder 900 or 1200 ?

I hope you will post a review when it arrives. The idea of building a ballistic program into a rangefinder is a great concept if it works as advertised.

Re: Leica Rangefinder 900 or 1200 ?

so what is the max range on an animal on these rangefinders
i have nikon 800 and only ranges deer up to 500 yards!
will this leica 1200 range animals up to 1200 yards ?

Re: Leica Rangefinder 900 or 1200 ?

If you can hold out for the new 1600. Otherwise get the 1200. You will be very happy with it.

Re: Leica Rangefinder 900 or 1200 ?

I got to play with the 1200 with 7x magnification yesterday at a local shop. Man, are these rangefinders nice. They are super light and the 7x magnification was nice. My Bushnell 800 Yardage Pro feels like a cinder block compared to this small Leica. I wish I could have had a chance to play with the 1600. Seems like a decent price for the 1200's.

Good luck with your decision. PAT.

Re: Leica Rangefinder 900 or 1200 ?

Mine ranges problem-free to around 1100, after that it's a bit iffy.

edit: went outside and ranged a horse just up the hill from my 1120 yard water tank, took 3 tries but the horse is 1138.
