Length of pull

How do you guys determine the length of pull on your rifles? I have long arms and like the rifle set up with a long LOP but in doing this I have to scoot the scope really far back to avoid craning my neck. Im using a NF base on a 700 with a McM A4 and my scope is mounted as far back as possible. I still have to stretch into it so Im going to reduce the LOP but thats going to make the stock less comfortable.

Re: Length of pull

It is from the inside of the elbow, (crook of the arm) to the pad of the finger, and then I usually minus about 1/2"

The elbow should be an L and then measure that inside distance.

Shoulder ? that is a long LOP by anyone's standard.

Re: Length of pull

Ok, thanks. I measured my arm at 13.5" with my finger curled to a comfortable position and the rifle is set up at 14.5". So I've got the rifle set up about 1.5" long basically. I'll shorten it up and see how that works out for me.

Re: Length of pull

LOP varies by the trigger to grip distance and comb height. There is no lop that is always the same for you unless the above are the same gun to gun. The best way to figure it is your thumb should be about 1" away from your nose when comfortably mounted.

Don't confuse eye relief with lop it's a whole different matter that needs to be solved by mounts and rings.

Re: Length of pull

It was definitely a LOP problem. I shortened the LOP on the rifle this afternoon. The rifle is actually a lot more comfortable now and its more natural to keep my shoulders square to the bore. Eye relief is no longer an issue on this rifle. Thanks again LL
