I currently run
155 smk Palma at 2765fps (.70 moa @100) 2.8 oal and 44.1 grains
175/178 smks at 2450 (.50 moa @200) with 41.3 grains 2.8 oal
Out of a deer rifle (browning xbolt)

My question is my throught is long. Not sure of the exact number but over 2.9. I have been shooting the 175/178s at 2.8 with good results but I would like higher fps because of so much drop. How should I go about finding the node at a longer OAL and finding the OAL.

Hornady guages will help.

Why don't you increase the powder charge. At 41 grs you are one node under the max node.

You can get the oal guage set, and it will tell you where the lands are, for any bullet you use. I start 2-3 thousands off, and do some work ups, move back to "mag length", and work up , and compare the results. Remember that you have to rework your loads, because less "jump" can increase pressure greatly. And, if you find a nice load at, say 2,92, they probably won't fit in your mag, and you'll have to "feed'em one at a time'. Some guns are finicky. Some don't change accuracy "that much", with a change in oal.
