Rifle Scopes leupold 63055

Re: leupold 60355

Honestly? It sucks! BUT....... This review is my personal experience. Others may have good luck with their Leupolds.
I have the same exact scope. After 20 rounds with a new scope I had small black particles attach on the interior of the front lens. I sent it back to Leupold, and they "cleaned" it, and mailed it back. Remounted it, fired it 5 times, and the same thing happened. I called Leupold up again, mailed it back, and got it back. This time I sold it. Too much of a hassle for a $1400 scope. Im getting a NightForce. From what I have read on here, I would say 85% of the members have NF scopes, and love them W/ NO issues! Good luck!

Why is it that people always ask these types of questions AFTER they have already taken the plunge?!?!?

Did you run a search (here or otherwise) or look around on info before you dropped the money on the Leupy?

Also, I assume you mean the 63055 (since the 60355 is a 3.5-10x with a SFP B&C reticle)?

For the same money, you could have bought a NF that would serve you vastly better (and likely LONGER and more reliably) than the Leupold. If it were my scope going on my GAP...I'd cancel the order or send it back when it arrives and go a different route.

Yep,its a 63055. I may have time to cancel. Tell me the equivalent NF for the money?

What did you pay for the Leupy (I'm guessing at least $1800+ unless you bought used) and anyone here can likely point you to a source or three that will get you in the ballpark of a NF for roughly the same money (probably a little more if you want FFP, but it is terribly unfair to compare the features and the glass of the NF with anything Leupold makes...the NF is superior in every respect). Also, while NF is a great bang for the buck, there are other scopes for around the $2k mark or so that simply blow the Leupold away.

How much do you want to spend and what are the MUST HAVE features you need on your scope? That is probably the best way to get you into a scope that will serve you better than the Leupy.

$1600

Looks like a nightforce in 5.5-22 ftp is $2200

I am sure there are others. I want to stay with leupold or NF.
if NF is the best bang for the buck. I will purchase.
I simply shoot paper from a bench at 250 yds max right now.
I would like to get out to 1 k. I also have a .50 bmg, i may like to swap the scope to, down the road.

I am learning so, i would like to hear words of experience, as i have.up to this point.

Thanks

Re: leupold 60355

Nightforce is definitely THE best bang for the buck based on several things, but primarily the quality of the glass and the rugged dependability of the scope under a wide range of conditions over time.

In terms of the questions I asked you...it is important to know if you need/want ffp vs. sfp and also what magnification you need/want. Based on your intentions with the rifle...you don't NEED 25x magnification nor a ffp reticle for the kind of shooting you are going to be doing (at least at this point in time).

The NF is not yet available in a ffp 5.5-22x. The ffp model is the F1 which is a 3.5-15x50 and it will run you around $2200 or so.

If you can give up the ffp reticle, then you can get back into the higher magnification NF scopes with either the 5.5-22x or the 8-32x (which is overkill for what you seem to want the scope for). A non-zero stop model 5.5-20x can be had for the same price you paid for your Leupy ($1600 or so).

Now, with all that said...if you are only going to punch paper from the bench from 250yds away...you don't need to spend $1600+ on a good quality, depandable scope unless you just want to spend that much! You can spend 1/4 to 1/3 of that price on something like a fixed 10x, 16x or 20x SS and achieve excellent results at 250yds (and well beyond). I have done plenty of 800-1000yd shooting with a fixed 10x scope with no problems at all. A scope like the SS is a great "starter" scope that will enable you to learn to range (with a mil-dot reticle) and to dial in your scope for shooting targets at different ranges between short range targets out to well beyond the 250yd marker. They are well-made, reliable and dependable scopes that won't break the bank and will hold decent value if you want/need to upgrade down the road (unlike the Leupy which will likely lose a good bit of its $1600 price tag once you take it out of the box).

Again...wants and needs are two different things. If you WANT a NF or other high-end optic, then by all means...get one. You will be extremely pleased with them and it will last you a lifetime (or longer). BUT...I don't know that you NEED a NF based on the environment you are shooting in or the ranges/targets you are shooting at. Don't get caught up in the MUST HAVE THE BEST AND/OR MOST EXPENSIVE if your shooting does not require that you have it or you really don't want it.

Re: leupold 60355

I think you talked me out of the Leupold.

I only want to buy a scope once.

This looks to be the one I would want. I like tactical reticles,
But will it be fine for paper punching ?

My friend has also told me he has a US Optics 3.2x17x58
It has 11 night illumnation settings and the lowest is compatiable with a pvs-14 night vision unit.

It has rings and kill flash. He wants $2600 though !!!!

Here are some links to the US Optics scope.
