Rifle Scopes Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20x50mm ER/T M5

Re: Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20x50mm ER/T M5

BDD, look no further! Get a NF scope. I would say 90% of the members on here have NF scopes all for good reasons. I HAD the Leupold 8.5x25x50 scope. It was a POS! I sent it back to Leupold 2 times witin 3 weeks for the same damn problem. I had particles attaching to the inner part of the front lens. WHen it came back the first time, leupold said it was cleaned out.. I remounted it, shot (5) rounds, and got the same issue again. Sent it back to leupold, they returned it "cleaned" again. I shot it again, and same problem, so I sold it. IMO, screw leupold..

We're getting more of these (6.5-20) in-stock in a few days. We also have the 4.5-14 and 8.5-25 in-stock right now...

Here's another thread with more info:

Re: Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20x50mm ER/T M5

I wouldn't buy one without looking at a nightforce, USO, valdada or vortex HD model (there are used/new ones in the for sale section right now for prices similar to the leupie's retail price).

If you're going to plunk down that kind of money examine all your options.

Re: Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20x50mm ER/T M5

for an ELR rifle you may want to look at a premier or something that has a lot of adjustment. I am currently doing a full scale test/review of the ER/T line I have 3 of them and so far so good... The only one that has the adjustment value that would be suitble for a ELR rifle is the 4.5X14

Re: Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20x50mm ER/T M5

I have one and have only sent about 150 rnds down range with it so far. I have only taken it out to 400 yards so I haven't really tested it out yet. I like it and have not had any issues. The Leupold feels lighter then my Nightforce. The lighter feel makes it feel a bit more fragile but that is solely subjective.

I like it and as I wrote I haven't had any issues.

Re: Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20x50mm ER/T M5

I have a 15x NXS MOA/MLR zero stop. I wanted to mount glass for work and play that was FFP and all Mils. I picked up the M5 20x and am very happy with it. I have only put about 70 rounds through it but have discovered no issues. I used it at 100 and closer and then took it out to the NCPPR Long Range clinic and shot it out to 1000. I am a fan.

Until Nightforce comes out with their 5.5-22x in a FFP Mil/Mil I'm not interested in going back.

Back in 1984 I bought a brand new F-150 pick up truck. I had to take it back to the shop twice for the same problem.
I guess that makes all F-150 POS

Re: Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20x50mm ER/T M5

It is very easy for people to recommend the most expensive products available. It amazes me how often I see the most expensive options promoted as the "only thing you should even consider buying" because anything less than the most expensive is a "POS, doomed to break as soon as its used the first time." I have seen this when researching anything from rifle optics to fishing reels. Most people would agree that Nightforce, S&B, and USO make outstanding products. But i am amazed at how fast Leupold is bashed around here. I have 3 friends, all competition shooters, participating if F class matches, 1000yrd shooting, and benchrest matches. One is a well known gunsmith who has set 3 world records and won a few national matches this year. All of these guys have used Nightforce, S&B, USO, and Leupys. But when I recently went and hung out with them at the gunsmiths shop I noticed that all of their rifles were outfitted with Leupolds. I asked them why and they said their Leupys have never let them down and they would rather spend their savings on ammo and be at the range. Now these guys arent in LE or the military, but they do hunt all over the US and shoot well past 1000yrds to punch paper, and they tell me that their Leupys performed just as well as the more expensive brands available. It just bugs me that a lot of the time its only the most expensive options being routinely recommended. Im just saying.....the majority of non LE and Military people looking to punch paper at long distance and hunt at long ranges may not need to spend in excess of $2000 to get the performance, quality, and customer support that they need to accomplish their goals.

Re: Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20x50mm ER/T M5

George, where do you shoot in Norcal? I'd be interested in seeing that scope & comparing it to my 8.5-25 TMR MK4 and my Valdadas.

Well, I have a couple of those "half nightforce price" leupies and would rather have one nightforce/valdada/USO etc instead. So if you're interested in an 8.5-25 TMR or an older mark 4 4.5-14 I may know somebody who's selling 'em..........

Re: Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20x50mm ER/T M5

i am talking about brand new fresh of the line scopes

Eh, not really. The only leupies that honestly compare are these new mil mil ones which is why I want to see george's.

If you're looking for a new optic right now and are thinking of spending bucks look for something used. Lots of good buys out there and USO, IOR, Nightforce, Leupold, Vortex all seem to take care of their customers.

And like I said, if you're a Leupold queer I have a couple of them for sale (hint hint)...

Just my thoughts on the subject, do what you feel is best.

edit: my IOR broke last saturday, I sent it in tuesday and a brand new one is sitting next to me. Can't really argue with that kind of service (I break all my scopes anyways so that part doesn't bother me, HDC if you're reading this I'm making out another check for you right now).

Re: Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20x50mm ER/T M5

You'd be the man if you could score them legitimately at that price!
I used the mil. program and still two of those would cost approx $800 more.
About $500 was the difference between my Nightforce and the Leupold.

The Military does not "need" a S&B or USO. It is "nice" to have, but there are plenty of effective options as has been demonstrated. But then as Rumsfield said you go to war with the army you have.

Re: Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20x50mm ER/T M5

Obviously you missed the whole point here. Lets see, a $1500 scope going back to the factory 2 times within 3 weeks for the same exact problem clasifies the scope IMO as a POS!! Its quite obvious Leupold did a half ass job cleaning the scope when I returned it the first time. What they did the second time is beyond me, but it didnt work, and I refuse to send it back a third time for the same issue. I can see if the scope was a few years old and had several thousands rounds through it, and needed a factory "cleaning", but it was not. The scope was purchased earlier this year, and had about 300 rounds through it. Maybe they should have offered me a NEW scope due to the hassle I was having knowing mine was purchased NEW 8 months ago, but they didnt to keep the customer happy. I have heard both good and bad things about Leupold, and it looks like the bad caught up to me..So, IMO Leupold sucks, and I will never buy any other Leupold product.
For those of you that have a Leupold scope, and it works with no problems, good for you. Maybe you had an employee that took the time to make the scope, and didnt do a half ass job putting it together to get it through quality control. Spend your $$ on what you like, and what works for you.
