Rifle Scopes Leupold Mark 4

Re: Leupold Mark 4

Mk 4- going to have to be more specific; which series? The M1, M2 and M3 seem to be all pretty close and that is to say just sort of "ok"... the M5, M6, M8 look and feel like a different animal (much better one- though time will tell) altogether.

Re: Leupold Mark 4

I have the mark 4 LR/T 3.5-10x40 m1 front focal with side parallax, couldn't be more happy. You're gonna spend around 1300$, but you get what you pay for, these are great quality. Crystal clear optics, 1/4 MOA clicks (you can get 1 MOA and .5 MOA turrets put on em later if you want) and these are rugged too... If leupold is good enough for the army, its good enough for me

Not to ruffle feathers or anything, but I wouldn't jump on board with something just because the Army uses it. They would buy any pile of shit leupold offers them (the M2 mounted on the M110 is a perfect example), just so long as it says leupold on it. The Army seems to be like ignorant hunters who have no exposure to premium optics... swearing leupold is the best there is, nothing comes close and everything else will fall apart in your hands- blind loyalty. Or maybe it has more to do with kick-backs, job and stock offerings... I have no idea but one thing is for sure- they don't seem to even give any consideration to other brands.

Re: Leupold Mark 4

Nasty-what is your complaint about the Leupold Mark 4s with the M2 dials? I have been looking at these for a while and the concept seems sound if you like 10x variable scopes.

FWIW:

Leupold can supply American Made scopes in Volume--very few can.

Re: Leupold Mark 4

Mark 4 fixed or variable? Two completely different animals. No comparison between the two.

The fixed 10x and 16x were/are far better built for durability than the rebranded VX-III and VX-III tacticals that were rebranded to Mark 4 to sell more products since that was the only thing they wanted to do to sell more scopes and fill the wants and needs of people looking for variables.

They could have started from the ground up back then to build an brand new variable. Either way for most (90%) of what people use them for they will take care of your needs.

Re: Leupold Mark 4

I have a 16X mark4 M1.
Great scope but I took it off my SPR because I wanted to put a variable on it with an Ill. Reticle.
To me,the glass in it is as good as my new S&B... but for the reasons I listed above, this scope will be spending the rest of it's days on top of a varmit rifle where it's straight 16 power should work fine.

Re: Leupold Mark 4

Pro for me: Leupold will sell direct to people with a .mil email address at 40% off of retail. I picked up my MK4 with Illuminated TMR reticle for under a grand. If other vendors offered those prices on their products, I would look at their products more seriously. May not be the best out there, but it's the best for me currently.

Just saying 'sorry' is not a free pass on doing the work or being specific in the question.

Did I say "just because the army uses it"? I said, if its good enough for them, its good enough for me. We all know what happens when you assume.

Re: Leupold Mark 4

I decided to try a new MK4 M5 4.5x14-50 TMR FFP. Put it on my DTA covert and so far (3 range trips) I have been VERY pleased.
I was looking for something with 14-16x, yet lighter and smaller than my S&B 4x16-42. The glass isn't European but still acceptable.

To me, it is far superior to the 5x20 Super Sniper I had in size, weight, reticle and glass.

Only drawback on the M5 for me is no fast focus on the rear like the S&B's. I VERY rarely use lit reticles so that wasn't an issue for me.

Looking at a 8.5x25 M5 for my longer range 06 now.

Hope this helps.

Re: Leupold Mark 4

Have the Mark 4 8.5 x 25 lrt with the tmr .
Love this scope , have worked it from 100 yds to 1400 and it has been DEAD on repeatable. Have had many leupolds and only one had trouble. sent it back and they fixed it. How do you complain about that kind of sevice? Also have a nightforce 8x32 but it aint ever broke yet but I'am still tryin !

Re: Leupold Mark 4

To use the leupold discount, I had to make an account on Promotive.com. Still, you can get very good prices on Leupold products which is the reason I went with one.

I ended up getting a Mk 4 6.5-20x50 M5 ER/T FFP with a TMR reticle. Very clear glass and positive adjustments. Totally happy with the purchase for the awesome price I got it for, took four days from order to my doorstep, too.

Love the quote- the promotive tip is good. I bought a 4.5-14x50mm ERT M3 elevation through them.

Nothing but good experiences with Leupold's MKIV series optics.

When I look at spec sheets- the high dollar scopes weigh about a pound more- so really, they must be very good for people to want to carry them around.
