Hey all,
I am in the process of building my first AR10 rifle. I am building an LMT rifle and plan to use it for close to medium range hunting and steel ringing (think max 400 yards). My question relates to the reticle on the Leupold Mark 8 1.1-8 CQBSS BDC reticle... it lists the bullet weight at 175 and muzzle velocity at 2575 fps... which 308 barrel length/twist rate best matches this BDC?

I had the cmr-w 762 in the mark 6 on my 16” ACC and with my hand loads (175 smk, 42.2g RE15, Fed case, 210M) it was spot on reticle-wise out to 700 yards on 2/3 IPSC targets. I had to hold slightly low at 300-400 yards and slightly high at 600-700 yards for each respective reticle hold over at those distances. My D/A is between 5000-6000 feet so your trajectory may be slightly different if your DA is significantly higher or lower.

My load’s MV averages 2510 out of that barrel.

Thank you... I know BDCs have their quirks, but thought it would be good for quick shooting while still allowing precision dialing... I am new to the BDC and willing to give it a shot with experimentation like you note about slight variations.

Yep, you will be able to place shots fairly quickly on target to mid range distances (0-600) with that reticle. One of the best out there IMO and pairs great with any quality 308 semi auto with a 16-20” bbl length.
