I'm in the process of ordering my SPR and scope. I had settled on the M3 found one with a good price. And now i'm thinking i might want M2 knobs. I know the M2 knobs are 1/2 MOA both windage and elevation. But i read that the M2 knobs only have one revolution turn in them, like the M3. Which would technically give them a zero stop. In the process of looking for a 3.5-10x40mm M2 i can't find one in Matte. Thats a whole other question but i was wondering if it's true about the M2s having only one revolution of turn in the elevation?

I have a Mark 4 3.5-10x40 M2 TMR IR on my M1A. Yes, it's black - but you have to order it that way from the custom shop (I'm guessing you mean matte black).

Funny you mention knobs. The scope was ordered with a BDC elevation knob for another caliber, and I wanted a 7.62 knob. The first one I received had smaller than stock set screws in it, and it kept shooting loose. Told them I wanted one with the newer (larger diameter) set screws, and the second knob that arrived had the right size screws, but the knob was only half the thickness of a normal M2 knob. Sent that one back, and knob #3 arrives. Right BDC info, right screws, I'm thinking they finally got it right. I install the knob, and the damn thing won't adjust below the zero setting. I remove the knob and find there's a little ball bearing pressed into the underside of the knob for a zero stop.

Keep in mind that none of the previous knobs had the zero stop installed. So now I have to send this knob back for a 4th one without the stop.

So yes, you can get them without the zero stop. And you can get the scope in black as well.

I can't find a Black one, not in 3.5-10x40mm anyway. But see i want the zero stop. If there is someway the M2 knobs only have 1 revolution then thats perfect. But i've read mixed things. I had thought the only knob that possessed zero stop was the m3. Because it had 1 MOA click with only one revolution of turn and 65 MOA travel. If the M2 comes with the ball bearing type zero stop that would be great just need to find a Black one.

Re: Leupold MK 4 M2 question.

You can definitely get M2 knobs with a zero stop - I got one by accident. Just call up the Leupold Custom Shop, and they'll build you a scope in the color you want with the knobs you want.

Only problem with this is that you'll likely have to pay full retail for it. So not having a flat dark earth scope is going to cost you more (unless you can find a dealer that will discount a Custom Shop order).

If you're willing to buy an off the shelf flat dark earth scope, you can always just order the zero stop knobs. All their M2 knobs have a little hole on the underside to press that ball bearing into. That's all they have to do to make a zero stop knob.

You might even be able to get them to send you a couple of the ball bearings, and install them yourself. All you'd have to do is put the knob on a piece of wood, drop in the ball bearing, and hit it with a punch. Only problem (for me) is that once it's installed, it's not coming back out.

Awesome to hear. Would it be easier to get a M3 and replace the Elevation knob with a M2?

Thanks for all your help. I emailed leupold to see what they could do. Now i really want the M2 over the M3 incase i were to take a shot at a coyote at 500yds i dont want to be 3-5" off in elevation.
