Can someone please explain the difference between the Leupold M1, M2, and M3 designation on the Mk4 scopes. I spent the last hour looking and can't find anything.

Sorry for my ignorance.

Re: Leupold MK4 Question

The only difference is in the knobs, but they never did give the mark 4's zero stops, which really burns me, as long as they are making all these changes to the scope they should give it a zero stop I think.

Well the M3 doesn't list as having a zero stop but it pretty much does. It only has revolution so you would probably only dial a little past your zero if dialing down. Which would thus result in acting like an Erek knob zero stop in a sense. Say you zeroed your rifle at a 100 with 2 MOA of elevation to get it to 100, then you reset the dial back to zero. Once you dialed back down from a 1000yd shot you would dial 2 clicks past the 0 mark and then go back up. Which is essentially zero stop.

As for the others they have no zero stop. Hell even the new lineup they introduced at Shot 2011 still don't have zero stop. And the price point is 3000+. It has locking turrets and the CQBSS has "pinching" turrets.

I suppose I knew about the M3 having a sort of zero stop, but then the 1 MOA clicks are murder, unless you spool data from a dope card all day, then I guess I could dig it. Also I was very dissapointed to see there new lineup for 2011, I almost fell over backwards when I saw the $3000 price tag! Its a shame really, I used to really like all their stuff, but for $3000 I'll take a USO thanx lol, I really hope Leupold wakes up soon, maybe LowLight will talk some sense into them when they meet.

Agreed. It's nice to see them innovating but how do you come out with a new lineup of mark 4s and still not have zero stop implemented into them is beyond me. As for the M3 it's not the ideal scope for absolute precision. But for a 600yds below shot with a SPR it fills my role perfect. Also the M3 knobs will be quick. Hopefully these new models will push the price down, the 3.5-10x40mm M3 FFP is 1600$ regularly and the lowest i've found it for is 1301 which is all still expensive. Especially when i can shell out 1500$ for a 2.5-10x32mm nightforce with all the works. Thing is the nightforce is 32mm which isn't want i want.

Re: Leupold MK4 Question

The 32mm on the nightforce and for some odd reason no parralax? I guess they thought it would be needed for its intended role? If the nightforce had a parralax adjustment, I bet they would sell alot more of them and maybe a 40 mm objective would be really nice too.

Also agree. I would jump on the nightforce every day over the mark 4 if it was 40mm. The parallax doesn't bother me as much. Most people say you don't need a parallax adjustment with 10x maximum power. But it's a nice feature to have anyway.
