Note:
This is a quick initial impression, not a full on review..
It's also a hunting scope, not a tactical scope.
2nd focal plane reticle,MOA adjustments
I got one in the other day and will be running on a Nosler 280AI
lluminated LR Firedot duplex
Same illumination system as the VX-R but with 11 vs 9 settings
Initial impressions are good
At 2x there is a nice wide field of view and an overall "big" feel to the image
very forgiving eyebox, easy to get on target
the reticle gets very bright (center dot, .3 MOA)
Low light glass testing:
Testing against a Victory FL 4-16x50, well, yes, the Zeiss is better
Testing against an Accupoint 3-9x40, the VX-6 is better, brighter, sharper, better resolution
Reticle can be set VERY low, zero flair and very similiar to the Accupoint (I have the Mildot / green dot)
Into low light the scope works very well at 12x though you may need to back off a tad on magnification when it gets VERY low light like after 30 minutes past sundown
The ballistic dots (two below scope) actually work very well with the 280AI running a 140g @ 3150 and a 300 yard zero
Even though I am in general not a fan of calibrated reticles..
I can see where this would work fine for most of my hunting which puts me a dead hold out to 350 and the little dot would serve well for low light out to 350.
Good lighting, the dots would work at 4 and 500
A little range time to play with but it should be a good hunting setup as 95% my shots are under 400 and most under 300, but I like the option to confidently go to 500
In short, I think they got this scope pretty well dialed in for a hunting scope
Fairly lightweight and trim
They nailed the illumination and it works as well at both ends, dim and bright as my S&B Flashdot
Reticle choices are personal preference of course and there are other options but this is all Leupold had available and I think it may actually work fine with this gun
The CDS turret with a zero stop will be ordered in the next few days to try out, they are free, so, why not?
I will probably run this through the upcoming deer season after some long distance range time and testing..
