I'm not sure if this is the proper place for this question, or if it belongs in another forum. I live in Texas and am wanting to try and get a license for a silencer, and/or full auto. I really want the silencer, but one day it would be nice to maybe own a full auto rifle. Does anyone know what the process is for getting a license? Does the license cover both? Thanks guys.

Are you always a jackass? You added absolutely nothing to this thread.....IMHO STFU

To the OP. You will have to know your local laws, but in short no one license wont cover a supressor and a full auto. They are both different tax stamps. Best advice i can give you is to go into a Class 3 dealer and ask them to explain what has to happen or you could pm 737SHARK on here and ask him about the process.

To buy a suppressor you don't need a license. When you find a Class III FFL that's selling the suppressor you want (or who's had one transferred in for you), you just have to fill out a Form 4 (get fingerprinted and a signoff from your chief law enforcement officer) along with the normal 4473 form, submit a check for $200 to ATF, and wait for approval to come back. Depending on your location, it may be necessary or preferable to form a trust or corporation that will actually own the suppressor, in order to avoid issues with chief law enforcement officers who refuse to signoff.

Generally, go visit any major suppressor manufacturer's website and they'll have further details and better explanations of how and where to buy.

Cool....good for you. You could have at least provided a link, maybe a response????? But nope, you took the road of a jackass. Which seems per the norm for you.

Is a talking bush similar to a vagina with gas?

Concept is pretty close if you ask me.

Re: License?

It's cool, I did google it, got some information. Most of it was people trying to sell me shit. I figured some people here would have some experience in this area. I've gotten some good input in the past. As far as the action movies go, I'm not sure gay porn counts, but hey, whatever floats your boat sir.

Thanks for the input fellas.

Re: License?

The biggest problem you are going to face is if your local LE (Police Chief / Sheriff ) will sign off on the paperwork. Technically all they are doing is agreeing to run your background check and sign a paper that says they don't show any criminal record for you and don't have any information that you are planning on being a criminal, however most of them see it as if they are allowing you to own one so it depends. In big Texas counties such as Dallas, Houston, Collin etc you probably will have to go with the trust or corporation route, in smaller counties it might be really easy.

As listed above, you need an application for each separate item with a tax stamp for each, but any class III dealer should have all the paperwork and be used to helping you fill out the forms.

Do expect to learn patience however, it can take from 2 months to a year to get your paperwork back from the ATF depeding on how quick they get around to it.

Re: License?

It's a common misconception that you need a license to have the cool toys, simply put, pay your tax, and get your toys. Now since we live in the Great State of TEXAS which County you live in can present problems, Dallas Harris and few more the CLEO will not sign the paperwork, no biggie, form a Trust or LLC, the Trust/LLC owns the toys, you own the Trust/LLC, and the CLEO can go F him/her self, and you still get the toys.

No license needed unless you are going to import, manufacture or deal in them as a business. All you need to do is submit the tax stamp application; ATF form 1 to make, ATF form 4 to buy. Silencers are illegal in TX, but registration is an affirmative defense to prosecution and the ATF routinely approves any tax stamp application from a TX resident that is filled out correctly.

You can order or down load the forms from the ATF website. You will also need form 5330.20, two finger print cards, two passport sized photos of yourself and a check for $200. You have to obtain the local sheriff's signature on the back of the form. A judge or DA can also sign. You can also form a Corp. or trust to own it for you as this eliminates the requirements for the photos and signature. Check out http://www.subguns.com and http://www.silencertalk.com for more info.

I make silencers on ATF forms 1's as a hobby; the ATF has never denied me approval to do so.
