just got a new APA ASSEMBLED 308 from another hide member. Finally got to shoot it yesterday. Took it out with some Black Hills 168smk. Out of 60 rounds almost twenty did not fire, light primer strikes. Its a Badger M2008 action. HELP!!

    sure it is possible.

    Not likely but possible.

Anything happen to the ammo? Did it get wet? Solvents?

Did it happen once and then correct itself? Have herd of getting brass in the firing pin mechanism.

There are couple people here that have sent their actions back more than once.

    Thanks

Did have the issue on military ammo. Not on match grade 210M primers or CCI BR2 primers. Took it by Badger's shop and he sent it to get fixed. Haven't had an issue since.

Fastford, it is in no way a headspace issue. I have stayed quite with this for far to long. My bolt has been back to Marty a few times. He has always blamed the fail to fires on the gunsmithing. Its not a headspace issue. He tried to pull the same line with me. Good luck, pm me if you want some more info.

There's your answer, it's a known issue that I personally don't think they are addressing very well. I'd call APA and see what they suggest since Badger has obviously gotten it wrong at least once.

LOL, those guys at APA are known for turning out bad rifles with headspace issues (huge sarcasm here).

My gen 1 had the same problem you described. I sent the bolt back for the "update" and it came back with a bolt lift that will give you a work out, but it goes bang every time. It fired the leftover rounds it dented before and some rounds I loaded with magnum primers just to see.

Fastford, I have an SH Valkyrie in .260 with the Gen 1 action. I guess I am lucky. I have had zero issues with it. I did send it back to Badger for the upgrade since Marty had written a post here saying all the Gen 1 actions would be upgraded free of charge. I did not notice any difference when it came back. Bolt lift is the same and still no light primer strikes. I did talk to Marty before sending it back. He was very nice, the action was sent back overnight with $10 in cash enclosed to cover my shipping. Based on my experience I would think Marty will definitely make this right. Best of luck and let us know how this works out.

We had some similar isolated events. They were all handled promtly by Marty. The first mod was a different spring. He sent a pack and we switched out everyone we came in contact with.

The fact that you have one in your hands that was a complete build is what interest me. Any rifle that is a complete and tested rifle (has the logo at 12 o'clock on the barrel) has to make it through range and accuracy testing. Light primer hits wouldn't have made it through. I have noticed a difference in various primer brands. Some seemed to fire easier than others which could explain how it made it through a test if this is in fact the case. Either way the situation is easily resolved by calling Marty. If you would rather call me my number is 706-534-1577 and I'll be happy to handle it for you.

The bolt assembly is the only thing that needs to be shipped.
