Guys,

I have a rifle being built by Rich at R&B Rifles its a M40A3 and I need to pick the scope I wanna mount. I am up in the air right now and any feedback from you guys will help alot. I have narrowed it down between these 2:
1.Leupold Mark 4 8.5-25x50mm TMR reticle flip up lens covers included
2.Night force 5.5-22x50mm NP-R1 reticle bikini lens covers included & Set of flip up lens covers included

The difference is the Night force is $475.00 more if I go with it. Out side of the money being a factor in what you would pick if you could have either one which wwould you go with?

Thanks

Re: Litte help on picking my scope

Do you want to go mil or MOA for the knobs and reticle? Reason i ask is that the Leupold you listed has MOA knobs and a mil reticle and the Nightforce has an MOA reticle and I'll assume MOA knobs as that would be the smart choice.

The Leupold only comes MOA knobs and if you want matching knobs and reticle, which is prefered as you'll only need one set of data for the knobs and to use the reticle for holds, then the Nightforce is the only choice of the two. You can go either mil/mil or MOA/MOA with the Nightforce. I would recommend the MLR reticle if you wanted to go mil with the Nightforce. The NP R1 is what i would have recommended for the MOA. Also the Nightforce has excellent glass, has an illuminated reticle and is a scope that can take some abuse.

The old saying is buy once, cry once so buy the Nightforce and don't worry about crying.

Re: Litte help on picking my scope

I have an 8.5-25x Mark 4 and a 5.5-22x NXS. Other than matching adjustments/reticles and a better power range, I prefer the Mark 4. To me, the Mark 4 has better glass and I prefer more than 10 MOA per revolution on my knobs.

With that said, I think what you need the scope for will determine which one better suits you. If you are going to dial everything and not shoot movers, etc., I would pick the Mark 4 if priced the same. If going to dial and use holdovers, or shoot movers, etc., I would go with the NXS anyday of the week.

Which ever is easier would be up to the shooter, meaning you. Do you use MOA now and feel comfortable with it? If so go that way. If you want to go mil then go that way. Nightforce offers the 5.5-22x50 set up with both MOA and mil knobs and reticles. Just need to choose which you want and order it up.

You can look at the Nightforce site www.nightforceoptics.com and look at the options as far as reticles. You picked a good one above for MOA and I would recommend the MLR for mil reticle as it has 1/2 mil marks which makes holds and ranging easier as you can break down the mil easier.

For knobs the 5.5-22 is offered in .25 MOA elevation and windage, 1 MOA elevation and .5 MOA windage and .1mil elevation and windage knobs. Your choice to match your reticle.
