Going from .308 to .260, would that only require the new barrel? boltface dia is the same but wasn't sure on how they headspace if a matching bolt (via kit format) is needed or not.

Thanks,
Hawk

Actually thats not correct. They manufacture the parts to perform the conversions, you dont need to supply any "donor" parts. Aside from the barrel (DPMS or Armalight pattern either will work) all that you need to provide would be the gas block.

A06 knows more about this than I do. I don’t think they alter the extension, I may be wrong but it doesn’t matter, they have been doing conversions successfully with the MRP platform (AR15) for a while.

I have heard a lot of guys being very happy with the results using everything between Black Hole and Noveske barrels. You are not stuck with LMTs profiles or twist rates you can literally use any barrel profile from any manufacturer. The best of everything.

Re: LMT MWS - Caliber Swaps

Correct all parts needed for the conversion are made on a CNC lathe in house. The extention (the part the bolt will lock up with) is altered but not replaced.

Was at the shop yesterday and we are rather surprised how litle interest there is for the MWS. MRP is another story lots of 223 guys getting conversions done esp with 300Blk.

Not knocking Rock they are great barrels but it seems most MWS owners are willing to wait for the factory barrels in different calibers. I would have bet you a paycheck a while back that there would have been lots of guys getting 6.5 and 260 barrels on non Rock blanks. Just hasnt been the case, so far the bulk of the MWS conversions have been in 308 with Noveske barrels.

I dont work for them but I have known Dennis for a while and I bug him weekly with projects and help around the shop when I can.

Feel free to PM me for more info if you would like. Others have done conversions on the MRP in the past its not some top secret process but everybody does it just a bit different. Lots went into the conversion to make it safe, reliable and affordable whle keeping a quick turn around time.

DMG 308,

just read your comment again...maybe I wasnt following what you were saying initialy.

My reply was to say you dont need to ruin or alter your MWS barrel to convert another AR barrel. For example if you had an ACR or SCAR and wanted a custom barrel at this point you would be canabalizing parts from a factory barrel since they are not offered separatly to install an aftermarket barrel.

A barrel sent in for a conversion such as a Noveske would be altered to function in the MWS. Not really a big deal IMO if you decide to for whatever reason change it back to an AR10 barrel later you just replace the extention. Maybe some folks would be put off by that but I just figured thats more or less the point of the MWS (quick barrel/caliber changes).

Hope that reply made more sense than the first if I initialy missunderstood what you were saying.

Re: LMT MWS - Caliber Swaps

Gotcha ...yeah I was saying you would loose the ability to switch back and forth. I thought they used your existing extension on the new barrel I was unaware they made new ones as part of the conversion.

The other thing I was curious about the LMT barrels are supposed to have an angled gas port or so I was lead to believe.Do they duplicate this in the conversion or use the traditional 90 degree port?

FWIW I dont think my new .260 barrel is a Rock Creek barrel. I say this because it was WAY less expensive than the .308 barrels that are currently on the website. I really dont care as long as it shoots well. We will see, if not I will get one converted.

As far as a lack of MWS conversion, I think a lot of MWS owners are still in recovery from the cost of the gun plus decent glass. This sets most back 4K and that does not count BUIS, mounts, and slings. As far as I can tell most of the rifles have shipped in the last 4 months so in time they should doing more of them. In time I will have some other calibers maybe a 243 or a 7-08 or a 308AI.

Anything new to add to this thread??

A large frame AR is in my future. I was ALL OVER the GAP-10 until I start considering cost savings with barrel swapping vs. upper swapping.
