What's everyone's opinion on the LMT MWS' capabilities for something like the Steel Safari?

Has anyone run one at this type of match? What are your thoughts?

It'd be fine. I ran mine in the mammoth sniper challenge 2 years as well as numerous other PRS style 1 and 2 day matches (these were the long range matches before the PRS came along). I'd prefer to run it in 6.5CM over 308 for the reduced recoil and ballistic advantage.

Only problem is it's heavy but so is really any long range rifle that's properly setup. Also, large frame gassers are harder to shoot accurately than comparable bolt guns. For this reason, I've all but retired my MWS from long range shooting. Very capable rifle, just not what I prefer to shoot LR with anymore. I keep telling myself I need to get it back out and run in matches but I feel it's a disadvantage unless something like a dedicated gas gun match.

So decide that's what I'm going to shoot and practice with it a lot to get consistent or stay away from a gasser for precision work all together?

I've been thinking of going 6.5cm and just working with the rifle until I'm comfortable. I've shot a lot of small frame AR stuff and do pretty well, I'll have to see how good I do with the large frame to start and see if it's worth spending the time to train on.

If you've got the time/ desire to practice the rifle will shoot rather well. Back when I was shooting my as my only long range rifle, I was able to place well in the different matches I was shooting. If you are serious about long range shooting, and shooting different matches, the 6.5CM is the only way to go. I remember when I first swapped mine over to 6.5CM it was night/ day different. At the time I was running 140 amaxs over 42 gr (I think) H4350 at around 2675 from a 20" barrel. Soft shooting, and much flatter than 308.

For the time being though, it's just easier for me to work with my bolt guns since I get little to no range time other than matches anymore.
