Looking for an accurate load for Rem 700 5R in 300 WM. Using Winchester Brass, CCI 250 Primers, and RE22. Would be interested in other powders also. Not happy with current load which is 185 Berger VLD Hunting and 74.5 grains of RE22 at 3.565 OAL.

Thanks in advance,
Chad

Bob what kind of OAL are you running? How far off the lands? This is a hunting load I am working on and don't want to jam.

Thanks for the link....I have run through the loads listed in the reloading depot but many of them seem to leave out some of the particulars that I am interested in such as OAL, distance from lands etc.

That is Winchester brass and 200 Gr Accubond?

Wegner,

When I used to load 200 AB's, they were set to 3.40" COAL (mag. tolerant) over 72 gr. RL22 in Federal/Nosler brass, CCI 250 primers. IIRC, I was getting about 2950 fps. It's been a couple years and I don't have that notebook handy. That brass has less case capacity than the Winchester brass I'm now using. It works out to a little over a grain of powder to get the same velocity.

As always, start low and work up slow. FWIW, I stopped using ABs because they copper fouled my barrel horribly.

Thanks John....I am not dead set on Accubonds, just have them in stock on the shelf in the reloading room. I would like to run 208 AMAX but cant find any locally. I am a little concerned with AMAX on Elk but I think 208 would be fine.

I haven't shot an elk with one yet (damn!). But I'm guessing if pushed be a WM, they'd be GTG out to 5-600 yds. I shot clean holes in my buddies 1/2 mild steel plate at 600 yds and left giant craters in it at 1000. *I* wouldn't wnat to be downrange catching them.
