i have been useing 41.5 reloder 17, thinking of going HODGDON or IMR is this a good move? or is their another was i should go. im noticing alot of "smoke" when the reloder is fired. thats the reason for the change. this is out of my AR im 308, my bolt gun does not have this problem?

Cowboy,

VV N-550, N-150, or PowerPro 2000 might help.

Re: loading 308 win, changing powders

2000 mr is the best powder I've ever seen for pushing BIG bullets out of a .308. Mind you, I mean 175+. I do not know what your application is but I do know that it trumps varget on velocity. This is out of bolt guns so I would be interested to see how it performs on gas guns

Re: loading 308 win, changing powders

2000 MR yields awesome velocities at a given pressure, but not so awesome accuracy (for me).

Same here so far but with CFE223, 168 & 178 gr Amax. But I'm still experimenting.
