    Hi All -

I will soon be reloading for a Larue OBR w/ 18" barrel. Been reloading for a few years now, but never for a gas gun. Any leads on loads for 1000 to 1300 yards or so? Obviously I will need to keep these mag length. Would playing around with 155s be something worth tinkering with?

That may be a tough order to fill. That extra 300 yards beyond 1k is going to need lots of help from the speed department, unless ENV factors are in your favor.

For a gas gun with 18" barrel in 308win, I think 1300yds would be difficult. Assuming best case scenario, shooting at high altitude. Plus if you pick a heavy bullet with high BC and to help retain momentum such as a Berger 190VLD, my calculations show that you would have to push that at about 2700 fps at 4800 altitude to stay supersonic to 1300 yds. That would be difficult for a 308win.

A 155gr SMK with same best case scenario would need to be pushed at about 3400fps, not possible with 308win

Thanks for the reality check... I know that 1000 is doable, as I've done it with 168 Berger VLDs from an OBR. I am thinking that 155s may be a better alternative to help with seating depth.

In that weapon 190's should go transonic and stay on path to 1300 yards .. Speed without Accuracy and Reliability is like a Dog chasing its tail.almost gets it ,But in the end he just Bites his self in the ass..
Accuracy no preasure,Over velocity.. if you need a Number shoot for 2450 FPS and 190smk,185-190VLD..

Problem is you will need + or - 65-MOA of travel for 1300 yards...You will need a 30MOA or better base and a MOA/MIL rich scope..

Re: Loads for .308 gas gun to 1,000+

As ASM1 stated...I would go with heavier bullets (e.g. berger 190gr) because of higher BC and they retain their velocities better at distance. Work up with your loads, and watch for pressure signs, as these sound like they will be close to max and you may have to compress your powder.

If possible, please give us a follow up.

Here is a Accuracy load for an AR10 if it dont shoot this in tight groups you have a problem.. I have used this load for a couple years in a few 18" 308AR platforms.

    LC/LR brass
    190mk
    BR2
    42.5RL15 No Crunch load
    2.810

    I loaded 20 of these this morning and ran them threw my MA-10 NOVESKE barrel an hour Ago its an 18" 10 twist...2453fps .5MOA & 100 yards .75 MOA at 563 yards..Optics 1.5-5x MK4 MR/T... No preasure,Even with AAC/7.62SD

Hmmmmm, upon first reading this, I assumed Brian's stuff was expensive............that is until I went to Midway and priced it out.

So basicly for 8 bucks, Berger will use the same components and load your ammo for you.

Gonna have to look into this.
