what are your pet loads for a 20" heavy 1:12 twist barrel using a 223 52gr match HPBT bullet.

Re: Loads for 52gr match hpbt 223

I have used this for years and it's the most accurate I have found for the 12.
From the Lyman 45th, tested in a 12 twist 20" AR 15

52 Gr HP, 20.0 Gr IMR 4198

I've tried quite a few powders@ different weights for my 52 grain SMK's including IMR 4895, 3031, 4198, W846 but the best load that I found is 26.2 grains of W748 dispensed from an RCBS Chargemaster and CCI small rifle primers .It shoots 0.5" 5 shot groups @ 100 yards in my Remy PSS and sub moa in most of my AR's and being a ball powder is a delight to load.

"Win case, trimmed to 1.750, Rem 7 1/2, 27.0 grs Re-15, 52 gr Sierra MK, OAL 2.250, NO crimp."

This is reputed to be a benchmark load for testing out barrels, from one of the mods over on the Reloading Forum at AR-15.com.

He designs fighter jets, so who I'm I to argue?

I have everything to load up some of these 'free radicals'.

Im running the JLK LD 52 with 26.9gr of t844 in winchester nt brass and a rem 71/2 primer. Oal is 2.350 if I remember correctly I run the AI mags in a bolt gun with the bullet in the lands.

From a Bushmaster Varminter, 24 inch barrel 1:9 twist.

Bullet: Sierra 52 gr. HPBT Match
Powder: Accurate 2460 25.4 gr.
Primer: Federal 205
Case: PMC Military
LOAL: 2.250
Velocity: 3230.72 fps

While this load isn't very fast it has been a "hammer" in all the rifles that I and others have tried it in.
21.5grs. RL10X, anybodies 52 -53 gr. bullet & just about any small rifle primer.

VihtaVuori N133 works well with the Sierra 52 grain MK when fired from a semi-automatic AR-15. The 10-shot group pictured below was fired at distance of 100 yards and has an extreme spread of 0.62".
