Does anyone know if a 9x36 Logan lathe would be any good for barrel/action work? It is a older one that looks to be restored. Thanks..

Re: Logan lathe

There is a Logan users group on Yahoo. Scott Logan is a frequient contributor and can answer any question you may have. I have a Logan 400 bench lathe and love it for small work. The issue with the older lathes is the bore thru headstock spindle. It's going to limited for gunsmith work unless you can get a barrel thru it.

Re: Logan lathe

I just looked at that model list JRM posted. The 400 has the same spindle bore. I cant hardly get a muzzle brake in mine.
You can always buy a Grizzly gunsmith lathe and keep it at my house.

Re: Logan lathe

I have a Logan 11 X 36 (Heavy I believe) and its been a very good and accurate lathe. It has a thru hole that I would consider a minimum for gunsmith work.

I converted the 3 phase power to a VFD drive and a drum switch.
