Long range 556 load data

Working hard for those 100 posts. I'll bite, are you looking for gas gun or bolt gun loads. What have you tried to date?

Forgive my ignorance cut mags? Cut for longer run out? Longer Bullets?
Correct, the front of the mag is cut out and the inside front face of the magwell has a shallow groove filed out for the bullet points. I can load as long as 2.415 and still have perfect function. It's honestly a different cartridge compared to the performance of a regular mag length load.

Any one have experience with the sierra 80 gr match king? Im shooting 75 gr ELD now. Much difference in length?

Raffica, by Long Range are you looking for 1000 yards or something shorter? Berger 82 and 25 grains of Varget well longer than mag length for 1K, my first and only 5.56 1K match. It works but...

Out to 750-800 yards (supersonic), 24 grains of Varget and a 77 SMK. I haven't tried it past 600 but I shoot paper not steel. There are shooters posting the same load for 1K hitting steel.

PS:. I have been to a match where a shooter ordered a case of green tip and shot across the course with it and a borrowed rifle. 200-600 yards

shooting the 75 grain ELD pretty well out to 1100, but getting lot to lot inconsistency in these little pills. As much as .020 using the stoney point comparator. Maybe the answer is buy in bigger quantities!

Thank you..that’s pretty impressive

I guess I'm behind the times with powders, but I shoot 77SMKs at 3005fps from a 24" bolt gun with 26.5gr BLC-2 and CCI450 loaded to 2.290". Except for the .190G7 BC I have no issue getting them on 1k steel.

I also use the 69SMK loaded to 3090fps 2.300" with 27.25gr BLC-2 and they have basically the same drop as the 77SMK above until about 800.

BLC-2 goes through a powder measure like water and is $30 per 8 lbs cheaper than Varget/8208

Starline Brass, CCI BR-4, HDY 75gr HPBT Match seated to magazine length, 23.5-23.7gr Varget, tweaked for specific barrels.

600yd generic F T/R load for 24" barrels 1:9" and 1:8". Used in Savage 11VT, and Stag Model 6. Planning to try it in a new 16" 1:7" lightweight upper.

Fallback load is HDY 75gr Steel Match and/or IMI 77 Razor Core.
