Re: Long Range Shooting near Destin Florida???
Being a CATM instructor down here at Hurlburt Field, I can tell you that long range shooting ranges here are pretty much next to none. Back home in North Dakota, ranges generally began at 200 meters but down here, 200 meters is a long shot in itself. If you are military, you can go to the range on base that is run by services, about 100 yards down the road (Red Horse road BTW) from the Combat Arms range. Show up Saturday morning at 0900, sit through the safety class, which is really nothing more than an RSO class and for $60, you get a years membership for that range. Keep in mind that the safety regulations as well as some of the regs from AFI 36-2226 apply such as having at least 2 people on the range at the same time apply here. It's a 200 meter rifle range and shooting is limited to not more than 1 round per second. No problem for precision fire but if you are looking at doing any kind of pistol training or timed fire, that's going to put a kink in things. Really, for long range shooting, this place is not an ideal place at all but it's about the only thing we have in this area.
If you're not military, you might look into Shoal River gun club up at Crestview. I've never been there but that's a range that's open to non-military if that's an issue for you though.
