Looking at a pelican or storm Have a size question

I have a Remington 700 varmint barreled action with a badger fte that is sitting in a manners t5a. The new stock is great the problem is thAt it no longer fits in the pillar lock case I've been using since I got it.

I've been looking at pelican 1750 and 1770 because I can get them locally unlike the storm.

My question is the 1750 has a internal length of 50.5". My rifle is 48" long at the longest lop ( tshirt and prone). Will 1" at each end be enough padding with the factory foam?

If it isn't I'll have to go 1770 and that's like 55 ish or something long. The problem is the cost goes through the roof.

Any advice would be greatly apreciated

Re: Looking at a pelican or storm Have a size question

Well if you don't plan on throwing if off any buildings it should be fine....

Our department uses dragbags for issued rifles in the trunks of cars before the pelicans don't fit in crown vic trunks.

And a dragbag has less padding than a pelican case. I think you should be good brother!

Re: Looking at a pelican or storm Have a size question

It should fit in a 1750 with no problem.( Pelican reccomends one inch from the edge.) I just bought a 1750 and cut the foam for a similar sized rifle and am very happy with it.

FWIW I used a heated foam cutter to cut the foam and while it is not what I call proffesional, It looks pretty damn good.

I personally like at least 2" of foam around the weapon both for the protection of the weapon and the integrity of the foam.

The same company customizes cases as well...

the problem is that my rifle has no where near the same contour of a factory remmy. Plus the extra 150 bucks over a standard 1750

if pelican says 1 " then I should be fine.

Make sure also that you are pricing out the same type of foam in the case you are purchasing ....(closed soft cell Polyethylene foam)

Here is the bottom part of my 1911 case. It just shows their work:

My Sako Trg with the muzzle break measures 48".
I use a Pelican 1750 in which I cut the foam to fit.
You should have no issues with the length of the rifle and
case.

Get a 1750, take the brake off or try diagnal
