I am looking at getting a rifle for $1500. Something to start out with and mabe build on. Looking for some ideas, what others like and dont like. What I am thinking at is a .308 20" barrel.
Personally I would go with a Model 70 Win and have it rebarreled with a No 5A 26" barrel in either 308 or 30.06. This will get you to 1000 yards. Even better if you could find a Mod 70 Target.
This, chambered in .223. .308, later. First, take up handloading.
You'll thank me.
Forget about the current short barreled fad. Long range has always been about long barrels, the current fad is just that. Sometimes folks take it into their heads to swim against the current; but they can never keep it up for very long before simple common sense prevails and washes them up on the shore of reality.
