Hey guys, looking at getting a AR-10 Battle Rifle, looking to go with mostly parts from the Wilson Combat store.
Main aim is to keep it as short and as light weight as possible. Looking for around 8 lbs or less.

Two main uses for the build:
  1. Range use
  2. Defense use
Here is what I am looking at going with.
  • Wilson Combat Complete Upper: .308 WIN with their Recon Profile Fluted 14.7" Barrel (1 in 11.25 Twist) and 13" M-LOK Handguard (Hoping they will be able to pin a Surefire SOCOM Muzzle Brake to bring it up to 16")
  • Wilson Combat Lower and Lower Parts Kit
  • Wilson Combat 4 lbs Two Stage Trigger Unit
  • Mission First Tactical BATTLELINK Minimalist Stock
  • Magpul MOE Grip
  • Magpul Hand Stop Kit
  • Magpul PMAG 25 Magazines
I was just wondering what people thought and if there is anything they would change and why.

I might be looking in the wrong place, but I don’t think Wilson Combat sells their large frame lowers individually. Unless someone is just selling their Wilson lower, I think you have to buy a complete rifle to get the lower.

They have em, just not labeled properly on the site. They kind of need to sell them, cause their AR-10 Uppers have a disclaimer that their AR-10 Uppers are only compatible with their lowers. This is a bit of a downside because it is proprietary.

"Note: Wilson Combat .308 pattern upper receivers are only compatible with Wilson Combat manufacture lowers and not compatible with any other maker's .308 pattern AR lower receiver."

I heard Ryan Kleckner mention on his Podcast that POF now offers a .308 in an AR-15 sized rifle.

Reading through the parts comparison on POF's website right now, looks interesting so far, concerned about the smaller parts taking the 308 stress. (mainly concerned about the bolt)

I do love the option of GP or DI

But that DI... 6.81 lbs... with a 16.5" Barrel

This is looking really cool, would love much more with a shorter barrel with a pinned on brake of choice to keep it above 16". Still freaking cool.

Price Point is also very attractive.

If you could point me in the direction of their large frame lowers, I’d appreciate it. I looked through their shop (on the mobile site) and just saw 5.56 lowers. I assumed that they were marketing the complete uppers toward people who’d bought a WC and wanted to change to a different caliber or barrel length.

Just had another proper look, I think your right, cant see it anywhere, might have to look at their custom shop. :(

Must admit that POF is interesting for what I'm looking for. Downside is not having the barrel length I want.

Would it maybe be better to just build this rifle with parts from Aero? Keeping with Wilson Combat Barrel and Lo-Profile Gas Block for adjustability.
Seeing as its a Short .308 AR-10, not needing extreme accuracy and keeping costs lower?
