Rifle Scopes Looking for a 30 MOA or more mount for IOR 3.5-18

Re: Looking for a 30 MOA or more mount for IOR 3.5-18

May I ask why a 30 moa. Seems that 20 should be enough for 1000 to 1200 depending on your cartridge. Or do you need a taller base in order to fit the scope without the bell hitting the rail?

Re: Looking for a 30 MOA or more mount for IOR 3.5-18

That scope has 70moa range.
If the reticule were adjusted in the center of the tube, you would have ~~ 35 moa adjustment left.
Where did ~ 27 moa of adjustment range go?
It sounds like your front scope mount [or front of your one piece scope mount] is ~~ .040" higher than it should be.
Or at one time, did someone lap your rings?

What I would do:
1) If rings have been lapped, put them in toxic waste disposal.
2) Otherwise, take off the top halves of the rings and rotate the scope in the bottom halves still on the rifle. Screw on the vertical and horizontal adjustments until the reticule cross hairs stay on the same distant target while rotated. Now bore sight the rifle and note how far the adjustments must be changed. Shim with narrow shims between the mount and the rifle until the rifle is bore sighted with the reticule in the center of the tube [or 20 moa lower if you heart is set on that]. Put two part epoxy between the mount and the rifle with the shims still in there and the mount screws loose. When the epoxy hardens, tighten the mount screws. This glass bedding is more difficult for two piece mounts. Then a scope must be used to fixture the two mounts co planar and edges on the same line.

Re: Looking for a 30 MOA or more mount for IOR 3.5-18

Are you asking for recommendations or are you trying to see if someone is selling? If its the latter this should be moved to WTB/WTT section.

Re: Looking for a 30 MOA or more mount for IOR 3.5-18

The rings have not been lapped. I appreciate the recommendation on trueing my rings but I have been wanting a 1 piece mount anyway so IF I can find one I will try that first. If not I will try your method.

Thanks for the through post!

Looking for recommendations if they exist.

Leupold makes a MK-4 20 MOA insert (# leu 110293) http://swfa.com/Leupold-Mark-4-IMS-20-MOA-Integral-Rail-Insert-P48112.aspx that is used with the Leupold MK-4 IMS base (#leu110192) http://swfa.com/Leupold-Mark-4-IMS-Integral-Base-P48111.aspx

I have these on the way for a SR-25. I'll be using low rings with the base and insert.

I don't know of a 30 MOA base for a flat top.

With my IOR 3.5-18 X50, I did have to use a 30 MOA base on my 700 Remington. A 20 MOA base didn't do it.

It sounds that you have enough left in your set up if you use a 20 MOA base on your rifle. 20 MOA should give you about 5.8 more mils ^ (that's what the math plays out to).
