Looking for advice on a good buy for a .30-06?

Re: Looking for advice on a good buy for a .30-06?

This was somewhat discussed on a different site with quotes from yet another site. The comparison was actually .308 vs. .30/06 and the claim was that the old V targets were reduced to X ring when the .308 began to dominate/tie matches. I won't get into the whole can/can't do a grand with a .308. If you have your heart set on an '06, you can have Savage build you one from the factory with a phone call. Or you can rebarrel a 110 with a custom barrel, better stock and trigger.

Current Savage offerings show less variety than they did a few years back. Hard to find a heavy barreled .30-'06 in the current lineup. There's bound to be some good used ones out there in the aftermarket, or you could maybe get one of their .25-'06 chambered rifles, and get a rebarrel in .30-'06 or maybe even .280 Remington/7mm Remington Express (essentially a 7mm-'06).

I was looking for the same thing but didn't find what I was looking for. I ended up buying a stock Rem 700 30-06 with a sporter barrel and building up from there.
