Rifle Scopes Looking for info on 2 scopes

I looking in to buying what I consider a higher end scope realize some of you won’t think the same. Lol and found 3 scopes that I can’t seem to find a lot of information on. Riton mod 7 5-25x56 and shepherd drs 6-24x50 Shepherd 5-25x56. Do the shepherds have zero stop turrets? And if you used any of these how did you like it.

Shepard scopes were just sold recently to a new owner. The previous owners touted their wares in Shotgun News full page adds for decades. Nobody I know took them seriously.

What the new owners should have done from the beginning is change the name. They carry the baggage of the previous company by retaining their brand.

From what I can see the new owners have made all sorts of improvements over the previous offerings, the problem is that wasn't hard to do.

Not familiar with those scopes, but curious OP, what is your budget allotted for the new scope?

Personally I would skip the whole lot.

No experience with riton but the Shepard scopes are just something I’d never do. A cool idea with dual reticles but my god. What a pain in the ass. It’s easier just to do it correctly with one.

I'd pass.
the MSRP on the scopes listed above range from $750 to $1400. I think you can get a WHOLE LOT more scope from Athlon, SWFA, Vortex, Bushnell, Burris, and others with solid reputation. If your budget is +/- $1000 and you want a FFP 5-25 or 6-25 there are a ton of good options that are well represented in different disciplines. I am no expert, so start reading in this forum. there is a of real, practical information that will lead you to make an informed purchase regardless of budget to meet your needs.

when you are ready to buy, hit up the vendors that support this forum. you'll get good advice and great service/prices.
or, hit up the used marketplace - you'll get more scope for your dollar on the secondary market.

Would like to stay in $1000 range. Also looking at vortex viper pst gen 2 Burris xtr 2 Athlon Ares ETR

With that price range, I would stick to Bushnell, Vortex, SWFA or Athlon, personally. Just more proven track records in the market, especially in customer service. Those scopes and MFG's you listed may be fine, but for $1000 I would want some more peace of mind. Would second looking at the used market as an option. May have to be a little more patient, and also quick to react, but some great finds for the money out there.

I vote Athlon Ares ETR... played with one this week... Ordered it the day after I played with it.

Great reticle, great glass, great illumination, turret clicks are crazy good, like I said I'm a big time research b4 the buy guy and after playing with one I jumped.

For them prices you can get much more scope, years ago I had a friend that had a shepherd scope on his 7mm mag it was a good shooter but I just don’t know that I would own one personally for that kind of money I’d personally buy an SHV or ETR

I stopped by Shepherd at SHOT. I was vaguely familiar with their product and concept. They’ve got some new stuff coming out that could be interesting but I’m not buying in just yet. For hunting use I think it would work but not so much more comps. The new stuff will be FFP and mil/mil so who knows. No idea about the Riton stuff. Everybody has their fanboys and retractors. If you want something right now there are many options

I was looking at tract but kinda want something in the 25 power range think tract only has up to 20 power which is probably more than enough but think I’d rather have a little extra.

Anyone ever test athlons costumer service or warranty? Or have any issues with Athlon.

Athlons warranty is great. Vortex put the strain on every other brand to up their service and Athlon has stepped in right along side vortex IMO.

For your price point, I echo the others. Why waste your hard earned money on a maybe, grab an Athlon or Vortex with an outstanding warranty and call it a day. Go shoot the hell out of it, have a great time doing it and don't look back...
