I currently shoot Retumbo in my 6.5-06 with good results. I was doing some tinkering with QuickLoad and found that IMR 7828SSC could yield me ~100fps with my current rifle. However, one nice feature of Retumbo is the temperature insensitivity. For anybody shooting IMR 7828SSC in any cartridge, have you noticed any temperature sensitivity? If so, how bad was it? I know that most IMR powders are temp sensitive, I was just wondering how big the swings are. I have a friend who shoots RL22 in a 30-06 and he sees 200 fps swings between hot summer days and cold winter days. If this were the case with IMR 7828SSC, then I will stick to the Retumbo.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Re: Looking for people who use IMR 7828SSC

I tried it in my 25-06 with 120 grain bullets. Can't say I noticed any significant temperature sensitivity but it was dirty and my accuracy suffered. Retumbo is a better powder in my opinion.

I have been shooting it in a .338 RUM and a 7 STW. The velocity and accuracy have been impressive. Don't know about temperature sensitivity as these are hunting rifles mainly shot in cooler temps. The times I have chronographed loads it has been consistent.

I've used quite a bit of it in various cartridges and had great results.

Never thought of it as a dirty powder.

You may find that RS Magnum will give you higher speeds in the 6.5

Re: Looking for people who use IMR 7828SSC

I love 7828ssc, my testing indicated that it was not temp sensitive. It burns at a similar rate to H4831SC yet offers more speed/less pressure. I use it in 243AI w/105s, 300wby with 180s, 22-250AI with 60s and 75s, 260AI with 139s. In my opinion, it doesn't burn as clean as H4831sc, but I can live with that

Compare it to RL22 without the temp sensitivity but with lower charge density

Re: Looking for people who use IMR 7828SSC

I like the Retumbo better but it is a slower burn than 7828.
IMR 7828 is a very consistent powder and its burn rate should be a bit better suited to 6.5-06.

I was a RL-22 fan for years but the temp insensitivity is just to much hassle despite the velocity gains.

I would think H1000 would be a good pick for the 6.5-06 would be an excellent choice for that caliber. John Barsness did some testing with a 6.5-06 and found the H1000 to be a super powder for his rifle.

mclevela, H1000 is on the short list of powders that I did not test in my 6.5-06. I tried RL22 and H4831SC, but both of them were way too fast. I tried Retumbo, and it seems to work well. IMR7828SSC is next on my list, probably followed by H1000.

I have never tried any of the Ramshot powders, I think I will have to give that one a try too.

Thanks for the info.
