I helped a buddy out and bought a few guns from him. One of them is an older Remington 700 in 22-250. I was going to set it up for some Varmint hunting, mostly Coyote. The farthest I will probably be shooting is 100 yards, maybe a little farther if I want to do some target shooting.

Any suggestions for scopes under $500 is very welcome and any advice. Always have done trap and pistol, just getting into rifles.

Thanks,
Brian

both the vortex viper pa series and the swfa set power are decent for under 500. Ive ran the 6.5x20 vortex an the set 20 power swfa. The swfa is my running favorite at the moment but I don't really use variable power anyway. I like the mil/mil adjustments for fast follow ups, but the field of view at 100yards is small. But you can clearly see half inch dots. The reticle on it though gets cluttered really fast once you drop beneath 16x imho. The vortes series will probably do you better if you are going to be shooting that close all the time.

Also there is a 4-20x50 open box one at cameralandny for $420.

These were normally over $600- $700 before being put on close out. Very Zeiss Conquest like with German glass, pretty hard to beat the optics under $700ish, IMO. And very lightweight. There are some really good deals on Zeiss Conquest close outs too, they were already one of the best deals going before the discounting.

I would look into a 3x9 for hunting... No parallax adjustment needed, just a good scope to hold zero. Leupold VX3, Bushnell Elite, have been my favorites but many more to pick from.

^^^ This. I think you could pick up a used Leupy on the cheap and be just fine. I perfer the vari x III over the VX II's. I also like the AO option for target over not having it. I had an old M8(fixed) 6 power on my 22-250 for 30yrs and it was good for those distances. If I missed a sparrow on the ground, 100yds or under, my fault. All suggestions given should work. Happy hunting!
