Mods, forgive me if this is posted on the wrong section and feel free to move it.

I just ordered a Savage 10 P-SR (18" threaded bbl). I'm looking for something to put on the end of the barrel, if for no other reason to avoid wasting those threads. I know that I don't want a sound suppressor at this point as I'm not interested in registering. I do understand the basic differences between a compensator, muzzle brake, and flash hider, but beyond that I'm not sure what I want/need. What I do know is that I'm not willing to sacrifice any precision for whatever I get as the whole purpose of this rifle is to have something to improve my marksmanship with. Also I'll mention that I'm wanting to stay under $150 and would like to be under $100 for whatever I get.

I guess my first question is are there flash hiders that won't hurt the precision of the rifle?
Also do brakes and compensators improve the precision, or just the recoil? Are there ones that won't make me that asshole with the loud rifle at the range?
Any other input is greatly appreciated as well. Thanks.

If you get a brake/hider from an established company it should not effect accuracy. I mainly run Surefire brakes and they have never hurt my accuracy. I have heard of some AAC mounts giving accuracy issues.

As far as brakes, any brake you get will be loud. Brakes don't increase accuracy themselves, they just reduce felt recoil which helps you maintain a better site picture and it should reduce recoil anticipation flinches.

Search for "linear compensator". I can only find them at the moment for 556, but I know I've seen a 308 version somewhere. Perhaps on Armalite, DPMS, Bushmaster, etc websites?
I DO NOT KNOW if they actually work, but they are designed to vent all the noise forward, not to the sides.
