Looking to buy 223 heavy barreled action

You can put a Want to buy ad in the classifieds here, that might help.

You could also buy a Remington 700 223 action from Northlands Shooter's Supply and a Criterion Remage Prefit barrel from them.

Another option (and the one I did), was to watch the classifieds until what you are looking for pops up. I bought a Tikka 223 barrelled action that way.

Keep your eye out for an SPS tactical or police model. The SPS’s were $500 ish new, you should be able to find a lightly used one for a deal. Savage also made the model 12 in a heavy barrel 223, or spend a few bucks more and get a Ruger precision rifle in 223.

Some years back a shooting companion used the 308 version of this Savage 12 F T/R, and it shot extremely well for him and for me. I can't imaging the 223 version shooting any different.

It may seem to be priced a bit steep for a factory rifle, but IMHO, it's as good as a custom and worth the money.

For the action itself, try Northland.

My pair (223 & 308) of F T/R guns use the Model 11 action, and are very accurate with handloads and factory Savage Varmint barrels (they are factory Savage Model 11VT rifles). They are restocked with Choate Tactical Stocks. Base is EGW 20MOA. Rings. Scopes. Adjustable Cheek Rest.

My 260 F Open 260 uses a 2000 Model 10 action and a SS Lothar-Walther 28" Savage Varmint Profile barrel.

NSS was my thoughts on the matter. Trued 700 action and a criterion prefit. Or a savage action and a prefit criterion or Shilen.
