To start off I have no experience or own any suppressors right now, I am wanting to ultimately get 3. I have a savage 22 bolt action and a mp22 pistol both with the the same thread pitch I believe I've settled in on the sparrow 22 for these because I like the way it's put together and the material.

That leaves 1 30 cal rifle and one pistol cal, I currently own all 9mms but would like the suppressor to support up to 45 cal. The rifle will be a tl3 switch barrel with 5/8x24 threads shooting 308, 6.5x47 and possibly 223. For the rifle my ultimate wants are durability and accuracy, I was looking at the ultra 9 but 2 things scare me a bit the fact that you can't disassemble it for cleaning and they say don't get it above 800 degrees Fahrenheit, with all that being said I'm looking for advice on the suppressors for bolt action rifles and pistols as well as which mount to use, I was thinking direct thread but I knew there are other options as well.

I like my ThunderBeast TakeDown .22 so much I bought a second one. Many feel the same way.

.22lr is really the only suppressor you need to clean and or take apart. Although they came out with a newer 5.56 suppressor that breaks down very similar to the .22 TakeDown.

I'd go w/ the Ultra 7 over the 9. Not much benefit for the extra 2". The 7 is worth the extra 2" over the 5 though. My 7 is a 30 cabliber w/ the quick mount.

My 3rd is the M4-2000 for my 5.56.

I have some experience with rugged, surefire, silencerco, and dead air. I really like the rugged for build quality, they're built like tanks (I'm about to buy a rugged 45 pistol can). Wasnt impressed with the silencerco stuff I've played with, dead air is legit and surefire is solid as well.
Pistols direct thread is gonna be your best option, rugged makes a really sweet mounting system that locks up solid (imo best option if you're swapping on multiple guns)

I've got a nomad on order and will be using the key-mo system on my rifles. Great reviews and very repeatable mount. If you want to direct thread, TBACs get great reviews as well.

I've been looking at pistol cans and the rugged obsidian 45 looks like the best all around pistol can for my use.

Suppressor shopping is overwhelming for sure. I have zero in-hand experience with either of the cans I mentioned, but after a lot of research those are the ones I'd suggest.

You can run a 45 can on your 9's and it will work just fine. I like the modular AAC Ti rants. Can make long or short.

There are many 30 cal cans, just pick one from a reputable company with acceptable price. TBAC, Surefire, Sig etc. And choose one that has a good mounting system. And was already said, you dont need to take apart the bigger caliber cans.

I have multiple manufacturers cans and like them all just fine. Suppression is not rocket science per se. A lot of quality cans.

Customer service, mounting options and availability are high on my list for choosing. Best of luck.

With all the choices out there it's hard to really nail it down, if the wait wasn't as long or there was a used market that made sense I wouldn't be so worked up over it. It seems once you buy it you own it forever, and then if you have an issue with it be it your fault or the fault of the manufacturer then it makes it even worse.

Lol, I just went on silencer shop and said "ok just pick something decent", everytime I get close I have second thoughts about it.

As far as pistol suppressors go is there any that sit below the sights? I know there's an oblong one, osprey maybe?

Ok, I think I'm going with the Rugged Surge 7.62 for the rifle can. I'm wondering though let's say my bolt gun shoots half moa how likely is it still to shoot it with the Surge vs the Ultra 9? I only ask because I always see TBAC associated with precision rifle shooting and read quotes on forums like " if you want accuracy and repeatability go with TBAC". Thoughts?

None really sit under the sights except 1” cans like the Dead Odessa. It’s not a problem though, just aim through the silencer much like an occluded sight.

a little bit in your same boat.

i went with a Q el camino, tbac ultra 7 6.5 direct (308 wasn’t an issue) and i had 50% off cert, and yankee hill 223 that i won.

only one i’ve shot so far at the range while holding it for me on a form 4.... was this morning!

I was in similar boat a year ago, wanted to cover all my bases - and I got a Dead Air Mask for rimfire, a Dead Air Ghost 45 for pistols, and a Sandman-S for rifles.

Of course it was a factor too that the Ghost was only $399 with the purchase of the Mask (also $399).

I'm getting the Surge 7.62, aac tirant 45 and the sparrow. Thanks for the advise. I'll prob get ultra 9 down the rd but I like the capability of the Surge for running on a ar platform.

I have a Sparrow and am quite happy with it, it has a bit of FRP on pistols, but is very quiet, especially for it's size, on rifles.

The Surge is heavier than I would go on a rifle can these days. I bought a Saker 762 for my first .30 cal can because the reviews were good and it is super tough. Turns out it doesn't matter how tough a can is if you don't use it much because it's a heavy pig. I picked up a lighter Ti .30 cal can that sees all the use these days, and have a Nomad in jail.

As for pistol cans, the Obsidian 45 seemed to be the top rated .45 can when I was shopping back in December. It got extra points for being rated for some big bore magnum and rifle rounds since I intend to run it on a .44 mag rifle. Hopefully my Obsidian will be out of jail in the next month or so, I've got a decent 300gr .44 sub load ready to rock.

For a thread on .22 can, I'd take a hard look at the Liberty Regulator. Liberty isn't typically a go-to, they make monocore cans mostly for hunters but their .22 cans are just hot shit. I have two and another integral from them. The Regulator cost half as much as the Essence at $300-ish and weighs 1oz. more (Essence was already one of the top 3 lightest cans made at the time) and is one of the quietest cans made (noticeably quieter than the Essence, which was a $600 can and very quiet) only 3 parts and no tools to takedown, no FRP (Essence had a tiny bit) and with 1cc water it's basically silent and I had to dedicate this suppressor to my pistol with the least action noise in order to get the most out of it. If you can't honestly say that about your .22 can, then you'd do well to heed this.

That said, I still want a TBAC .22 can too. But the Pinnacle 2 integral I used to build a Kidd 10/22 has no other noise than the "click" of the action really. Spooky quiet for sure. And accurate. I wish I'd gone this route in the first place because I sure use it more than any of the others, it's as much fun as the M2HB! About $2000 for everything, but if you have a good rifle to start with then the barrel is only like $600 or so:

I have a Liberty Mystic X, it's the one "multi" can I have but I only ever used it on a 9mm. I didn't wanna spend much on it, I don't use a can on a pistol much, they're just too long and heavy. I'll probably put that one on a small 9mm rifle some day. But the Sico Omega 9k? That one's the titties for 9mm pistols IMO. It's short, it's not gonna be spooky quiet, none of the pistol cans really are IMO/E, but it does take down the boom to reasonable levels and the can is small so it doesn't upset the weight or length of the pistol so much. It's great on the G26, makes it about the same size as a G17 give or take.

I'd avoid using .45 cans on a 9mm. 9mm generally suppresses better and it'll do a better job with a "tighter" can. If most of your stuff is 9mm, just go that route. It's what I did. I have a .45 and a 10mm I'll never suppress. And I almost never use the 9mm can FWIW.

For the rifle, I'd get the TBAC 30 Ultra 9. It's light and it's quiet. The 7" is the best all around one I guess, but if you can accommodate the 9" I'd get it instead. Later if you want shorter, just get an Ultra 5 and go that route. It's what I did and each can has it's merits. The 5 is no slouch either BTW. The 6.5 dedicated cans are nice, but the 30 will work here just fine --you can always dedicate one later in 6.5 if you like, but IMO/E it's not necessary. You can use .223 through it too but just know that larger bore cans generally make a deeper, throatier sound with smaller bore rifles. In some cases the larger cans actually suppress the smaller rounds better than the dedicated cans, but I'd still aim at getting dedicated 5.56 cans later on if it suits you. I started out wanting the same 3 cans you did and ended up dedicating cans to most rifles.

You don't wanna use the Ultras on say, an M4 that's gonna see lots of sustained, rapid or full auto fire. I think they make one now in SS that'll do that in 5.56, and then there's the Saker in 5.56 and 7.62 that's made for that kind of abuse.

You can go a lot of routes, I'm just laying out what I did and letting you know what works best. I like to stick with known companies that have been around a while and have a good following. I have others, but I didn't recommend them for various reasons. However, if you can score Sico Saker cans on sale and they suit your application, then that's another solid contender for rifle cans, quality for cost. And you could probably get a 5.56 and 7.62 on sale for same price as one can, PLUS a free .22 can from Capitol Armory right now if they're still doing the BOGO deal. That'd be a damn good start. I just got two sakers there for $1000, plus mounts plus adapters made it $1300 (but missed the BOGO deal by like a week, not that I really needed it). Killer deal I couldn't pass up to suppress two 5.56 rifles with quality cans.

Elite Iron is another solid contender I'd look at that offers precision cans and hard use cans made of SS. The SS keeps the costs down. He makes these for alphabet soup agencies and they're solid suppressors. I use 'em in .50BMG and I have one in .338LM.

Good luck!
