I just purchased a d760 pinnacle and it looks like snow flakes in the pic or fireflys. Is this normal and I also hear a ringing tone and my gen 2 didnt make any noise.

If I understand you right the "snow flakes" are just grain in the pic which is normal when it is very dark. The ringing tone means its auto gated, all autogated tubes make that sound.

Yes it has manual gain and I did have the filter cover on looking around my house with the lights off but a tv was on so I left the cover on. We have a foot of snow outside and couldnt resist looking through it in the house. That makes me feel alot better after dropping that kind of money. I guess it wouldnt have been so pronounced if the cover hadnt been on

My 740 was the same, with the cover on. It took a very dark night to have it that way with the cover off, even on the darkest night but it did happen. You will hear many comments about the noise. Mine did not have any and I have one of the Luna SPRS and it does not have any noise. I have owned 4 seperate PVS-14's and only one had noise that was too loud. They all had a hi pitch when first turned on but it went away immediately.

I was issued a PVS-14 that was LOUD. Like to the point were concentrating on anything other was a waste of time. I don't know why some are so much more audible than others, but Im just glad it was for specific training in the rear, and when the time came to go hot we were rocking 15's.

My 14 is a little whiny, but what the hell right? It is in the same key as my tinnitus - just a little louder

15s = no adj gain - correct? Not needed due to advanced circuitry? Wished you had it?

TIA

Im not sure how they achieve it electronicly, but they do automatically control brightness. You had a choice between 15's and ANVIS/9's, a lot of people chose 9's because of the lighter weight, but I liked 15's better because they didn't break or loose focus at random. I do wish I had a set...I would mow my lawn in them if I had a set now! Not going to happen on this guys budget though.
