France ,Germany instituted a ban on medical onprotective equipment exports a month ago . Only lifted couple of days ago when EU introduced EU wide ban on export outside EU block which was one of preconditions that Germans and French put fo lifting their own ban.
'' Health Minister Jens Spahn said at a news conference in Berlin on Monday. “We’re not categorically against exports but want you to understand what happens, because previously it was so that masks went not where they were most needed but where most was paid.”
Honestly the ones that need to start making white flags most are the Brits , first the totaly bungled up the covid response ,for weeks they had been runing in circles with an idea that they just ride it out without any restrictions ,let folks die at given rates ,then suddenly they did an 180° and now folow similar script as others just weeks late. In addition EU help will not be availible .EU always looked to put some pain on UK in the exit contracts ,but now that is easy to do.
Irony of it all that only reliable supply will for forseable future be China as every country is hoarding supplies.
Like it or not its the only one with industrial capacity and not in lockdown to supply all the stuff in short order before national industries tool up.
