Earlier this year, I shot in my first competition at the 2010 Sniper's Hide Cup. As I was a competitive shooting virgin, I decided to approach this competition with eye towards learning more than worrying about how I was shooting. When I pulled into the Rifles Only facility for the first day of shooting, I was introduced to a bunch of great shooters, all with great gear, and all happy to help the "newbie" along. I had such a great time, and I learned more in three days of shooting than I have since I took up precision rifle.

In addition to soaking up tips, tricks, and advice, I was also running my rifle to see what I liked and didn't like. My equipment notes, tied with a very generous prize table (Thanks Sponsors!), and this is what I ended up with:

.308 using a '95 Palma Reamer

Badger FTE brake, barrel is threaded 5/8x24"
Huber Concepts Trigger (This is taking some getting used to)
Manners MCS-T1, Controlled Chaos did the paint and texture
Surgeon DBM System
Bighorn Arms Action

I'll start load development as time permits this week, but this rifle is exactly what I wanted for a true custom "tactical" competition rifle.

I also wanted to say a few words about AJ Goddard at Bighorn Arms. Simply put, he is a super guy who builds a very, very nice action. I spoke with him on the phone quite a bit prior to buying the action, and we shared a few e-mails as well. When the action showed up to my FFL, I knew that I made the right decision. This action is smooooth as can be, and there is a lot of thought behind the features. It's not a normal Remington 700 clone, and I am very happy that I chose it to build on. Thanks AJ!

William Roscoe did just what I asked him to, and has been very accessible throughout the process. His work speaks for itself, and he made sure that we were on the same page throughout the build process. Thanks William for all of your work!

Beautiful rig JPipes. I love the look of the short bbl. Sounds like Bighorn Arms is getting more popular as time goes on.

Re: Louisiana Precision and Bighorn Arms

Thanks G, I am pretty certain that there will be a TBAC 30P-1 on order here before too long. I love my Omega 300, but it sure is heavy for positional shooting. Between the new rifle, and my new golf clubs, my wife wouldn't be too pleased to see an extra $1100 out of the bank account!

One more thing about William Roscoe at Louisiana Precision. It's a rare gunsmith that will call personally to see how I like my rifle, recommend starting loads, and offer to help me through the load development process. He's a great guy, and an even better gunsmith. Thanks again William!

Nice looking stick! Looks like a beast. William seems to be respected by many for his quality of work. It's testimonials from folks on here, like you, that made me decide to have him build my .260. Great builder turning out another great gun. Congrats!

No, I did not win this, though I wish I would have. William Roscoe was generous enough to donate a chambering job to the prize table, and I was lucky enough to snag it. I bought everything else (literally, everything) from the for sale section of this website.

Thanks for the compliments. I can't wait to get a good load developed for it.

Best,
Josh

*IF* you can understand the words that are coming out of his mouth

That louisiana accent is kind of rough for those of us who aren't southern folk!

Easy now Oddball!! Don't be bunching all of the guys from LA together. William is clearly a Yankee. He not only lives north of I-10, he's north of I-20! I think it even snows up there.

Hey Oddball wish you could have listened to mine and Williams conversation on the phone with my heavy Scottish accent and William with his. I could tell he could not understand me a lot of the time by the silence between sentences.....lol

No kidding! But I bet when you got your rifle, it was the best damn iron you ever owned (unless you already have a Tac Ops).

Hey.......I gotta draw the line at some point and you just crossed it. We did get some snow this year though.

That was uncalled for

Scottish Tornado, now there's a thick accent but a very cool one at that. He said his friends back home say his accent is becoming more westernized
