Trying to chose a lower power scope, around 3x9. Was looking at either the Viper 3x9 or the Mark AR 3x9. Have to keep it below $300 or so. Which one do you guys think would be the best? Or is there something else out there in that price range that would be better? It's going to be used for no farther than 400 yards. Won't be used for rangeing, just a good, sturdy, dependable scope for low money for plinking with a .223. I've done some searching on the google search, just would also like to get some opinions on some of todays scopes. I wonder if I should also add the Weaver Grand Slam in the list also. I know you get what you pay for and I'm not asking for a cheap scope with Nightforce quality. Just want something on a tight asses budget for a little back yard shooting and an occasional outlaw 3-gun. Also doesn't have to be 3x9, just somewhere in that range.

Mark AR I have isn't that great, the bushnell 10x I had before it was better for less money. Some people have been using the leatherwood cmr 1-4 for 300 and liking it.

If you can save up and wait a little longer I think the vortex pst 1-4 would be really nice for what you describe.

I have a mark AR 3x9x40. Third one as I keep sending them back. I finally bought a nikon m223 2x8x32 that I much prefer. Nice size for an ar type rifle, shorter, target knobs, bdc reticle, and I got it for $279 at primary arms. excellent deal. Combat proof, probably not but coyotes ain't throwing grenades at you, not yet anyway.

Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40 mil/mil is $249.99

The mil reticle/MOA knobs is on sale for $153.99

I would get the mil/mil version because you may want to use it for ranging at some point, and the mil/mil setup is "what you see is what you get" as far as shot corrections.

2 mils low and .5 mils left? Aim 2 mils high and .5 right (or dial it in). Easy schmeesy.

Glass is mid-level glass at a very low price point, and the turrets are very good. This scope is probably the best buy in this price range.

Didn't add that this rifle is an AR (you probably figured that out by the 3 gun part though) and will also be riding around a lot in a soft case in a patrol vehicle. Don't know if the target knobs would be the best choice, may get turned.
