Just an $18 soldering iron. 25watt wellers. I filed down one of the tips and played with it for a few hours on an old ak grip I had laying around.

It started out as a tip that came to a wide point. I just used a file and knocked the point off. There was no real scientific method to the tip. I may make a new tip with a sharp point and burn a mark in each large hole you see in the pictures.

The rubberish back-straps burned different then the frame it self. I did the small back strap first since I never use it. And then built up the guts to do the actual frame. The hardest part for me was planning out my lines with the curves.
