As some of you may know, I am gathering things for a Vietnam era M40 build. I have everything except the aluminum buttplate. I have searched high and low and I can't seem to find any. I am told the 721 may also work. I also thought of calling Remington to see if they have any of the M40 commemorative parts left. Any thoughts?

Re: M40 Buttplate

The 721 is not the same buttplate as the M40 era. The 721/722 has grooves in the aluminum horizontally, the M40 era has a checkered surface. Go to Scheels or Gun City and look and see if they have any 721/722's to look at. The original should have a 16601 I believe number stamped on back side. There weren't any at the last Mandan show and you rarely see them around here.

They are installed and sanded with stock to match contour so depending on your stock some may be too small. Should be right @ 5" in length and about 1.60(1 5/8") width with 3" screw spacing.

HTH
