Does anyone know the exact model number of the military version issues to the USMC for the m40a3? Also has anyone used this scope and what are your opinions? My custom 308 build will be done somewhat soon and im very seriously considering this scope.

Re: M40A3 S&B Scope

I don't know the model number but the civilian version is called the 3-12X50 Military. Basically what you are looking for is a 3-12X50 w/ 0.1 mrad More Tactile Click knobs in CCW configuration and an illuminated reticle. Issue S&B's (M8541) have a Gen II Mildot reticle however since the split I believe the best you can hope for now is a P4 Fine reticle.

I have some experience with the S&B 3-12 and I consider it one of the finest military optics available. It's compact, rugged, the adjustments are dead on, and what else is there to say other than it's a quality optic, which is pretty typical for S&B.

I have the civilian version of the USMC scope with the Gen II reticle. It is impressive, it is about the same size physically as a US Optics SN3 1.8-10x44 I had a while back but the SB glass is better. I am working on a 700 build that I plan to use the SB on as well, I don't think you will be disappointed if you end up with one unless you need a lightweight scope. The Schmidt Bender is on the heavy side but built like a tank. After having mine a couple of months I find that just playing around with it I would desire more magnification on the upper end if I had to be wanting anything else out of it. I understand that a 3-20x50 PMII is in the works.

taken right from the box: 644-911-972-89-64A38 which is above the bar code. below the bar code add:337416 before the 644xxxx with a space. as stated already gen2mild-dot reticle DT MTC 0.1mrad CCW . they do pop-up here but you got to be paitent. try eurooptics, alex may have one.
